Satin or lace?

So I never really liked lace dresses...until I saw some pictures of brides wearing beautiful ones at my venue. I definitely have acquired a liking for lace dresses. I haven't tried any dresses on, but these are the styles I like. I don't know which one I'll choose - satin or lace! Satin is so...

I haven't tried any dresses on, but these are the styles I like. I don't know which one I'll choose - satin or lace! Satin is so classic and elegant, and lace is so timeless and romantic. When the time comes (and if I end up liking how they both look on me), I think I'll be torn.

To you brides who haven't picked out a dress yet - which do you prefer? Satin, lace or another kind of fabric? To those of you who did choose a dress, what kind is it and why did you choose it?

I wanted all lace but I ended up with tulle and only a bit of lace!

I wanted lace but no lace dresses I tried on fit my budget, sad face. But the ones I looked at were very pretty and looked good on me, even though I chose a different one (which looked much better).

I did not like the satin dresses I tried on. They were stiff and awkward and it felt like I was dressed in a tent.

The dress I did buy is chiffon, for the record.

Before trying on dresses I hated satin and loved lace. When I tried on a lace dress I hated how I looked in it though and fell in love with satin.

So, I would say don't rule anything out until you try stuff on.

I always liked lace but I tried on some satin ones and loved the way they looked on me. However the feel of my wedding is more romantic and I felt like the satin ones gave off more of a sexy glamorous vibe so I stuck with lace. I wish I could have chosen about 5 different dresses though!

Lace! My dress is all lace. Anything in satin or taffeta just reminds me of nightgowns or prom

My dress is heavy satin with deep eyelet around the skirt, overskirt and train, so I felt like I got both. Smiley sexy

I only tried on like one dress that wasn't lace. I much prefer the timeless class of lace over the more modern elegance of satin.

I originally thought FH would love me in a lace dress, so I tried a few of those on - hated 'em on me. Then I went to a few that were fuller, tulle and organza and such, and while I liked them better, they still weren't quite what I was after. I ended up with my satin gown in the end, and I LOVE it. I just like how the material feels, and to me it just feels more elegant. It is a matte satin however, not a shiny satin (you don't see a lot of the shiny, slippery satin in bridal gowns though), and I wouldn't have even considered one that was of the other, shiny satin, as to me it looks more like a nightgown and tends to be unflattering.

Lace all the way! Even though I did try on a very nice satin dress and almost fell for it but I knew I wanted lace from the beginning.

My wedding dress is lace. I have always imagined myself in lace and was pretty against the idea of satin but to my surprise I was almost converted by a gorgeous satin mermaid gown. I finally settled on the lace dress because it was what I had always envisioned and worked better with my venue. Just keep an open mind when you try on dresses, you never know what you might fall in love with.

Personally. I love lace. I was adamant that I not get a satin dress as I really don't like that shiny look that a lot of them have. The skirt of mine is satin but with an organza layer over top so it softens it. The top part is lace.

I think it also depends on the time of year. Satin is very heavy and good for colder weather, but I couldn't imagine wearing it in the summer.

Oh I forgot to mention, if you're interested in maybe having both satin and lace, I found some really beautiful dresses by Sophia Tolli that had both! She was a designer for Maggie Sottero so if you like some of those dresses you'll probably also like Sophia Tolli. I almost went with a dress by her, they're a nice compromise if you can't decide what you want!

I'm not a fan of lace. My dress is satin, but not with a shiny finish.

I like both, however FH really dislikes lace as to him it looks like curtains and old fashioned tablecloths. I ended up getting non-shiny satin dress.
