Satin or lace?

LuckiestGirl, on February 3, 2014 at 9:12 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 72

So I never really liked lace dresses...until I saw some pictures of brides wearing beautiful ones at my venue. I definitely have acquired a liking for lace dresses.

I haven't tried any dresses on, but these are the styles I like. I don't know which one I'll choose - satin or lace! Satin is so classic and elegant, and lace is so timeless and romantic. When the time comes (and if I end up liking how they both look on me), I think I'll be torn.

To you brides who haven't picked out a dress yet - which do you prefer? Satin, lace or another kind of fabric? To those of you who did choose a dress, what kind is it and why did you choose it?

I went dress-shopping thinking I wanted a lace dress and was talked into trying a satin fit-and-flare. I ended up falling for the satin one and I'm so happy I did. I think either would have worked with my venue though, the satin just looked much better on me.

I prefer lace. It's classic and elegant. Satin reminds me of bed sheets.

I'm personally not a fan of lace dresses for me, I think they can be beautiful, but they are just not my vision for myself. I personally want a big tulle ball gown. Whether this is what I'll end up getting or not who knows.

I chose lace. I was pretty sure I wanted lace to begin with.

I always thought I wanted a lace dress, so obviously I wound up with a satin one!

I have a satin ball gown with pickups. Satin just felt right. All the other fabrics just didn't feel right on me.

I always imagined myself in a lace dress so I knew that's what I wanted. I ended up with a gorgeous fit and flare. It's an oyster (beige) silk dress with an ivory lace overlay. I love the look and feel of lace. You can never go wrong with a quality lace dress.

I naturally gravitated towards lace and also a champagne color. I tried on a gorgeous satin dress that looked amazing but for me personally I think that satin can be less forgiving with the elements aka for me, sweat.

I would say be open to trying different things. Definitely go and try both lace and satin (and other materials). For me, I needed to try each kind to really get a feel for what I liked and what I didn't. In pictures, I loved ball gowns, beading, and lace. Everything really! But when I got down to it, I found that while I thought the things I liked in pictures were still beautiful, the style I liked on myself was more simple with a little pizzaz. So keep an open mind and you might be surprised by the dress you find as YOUR dress! Happy shopping! Smiley smile
