Satin or lace?

So I never really liked lace dresses...until I saw some pictures of brides wearing beautiful ones at my venue. I definitely have acquired a liking for lace dresses. I haven't tried any dresses on, but these are the styles I like. I don't know which one I'll choose - satin or lace! Satin is so...

I haven't tried any dresses on, but these are the styles I like. I don't know which one I'll choose - satin or lace! Satin is so classic and elegant, and lace is so timeless and romantic. When the time comes (and if I end up liking how they both look on me), I think I'll be torn.

To you brides who haven't picked out a dress yet - which do you prefer? Satin, lace or another kind of fabric? To those of you who did choose a dress, what kind is it and why did you choose it?

I personally am not a fan of satin, and I love the look of lace dresses... When I went dress shopping, I was dead-set on lace, but after trying on a few lace dresses I decided I didn't like the way they looked on me personally. I ended up with a tulle dress instead-- something I never even considered before trying them on. My suggestion is to try on all sorts of dresses when you go dress shopping-- your preferences might change once you see how the different materials look on you!

I can not deal with satin that sheen is just very unforgiving. Horrible.

You need to try the dresses on first. You may like one in the picture, but it might not look the same on you.

I ended up with an all lace dress. I was looking for something chiffon.

I have a satin dress for the ceremony and was thinking of getting a lace reception dress. The satin one is just so dang heavy that I'm not sure I'd be able to stand wearing it all night. I also looked at a few chiffon dresses but they weren't fancy enough for me. Still not done shopping.

Satin is my 1st choice. But I've seem the new lace that are beautiful and if my wedding was vintage I may have went with lace. I wish we could have seen both the back & front of both dresses. The back of one & the front of the other; isn't really fair.

I walked in thinking anything but satin and no mermaid dresses. I bought a satin mermaid dress. I didn't want satin because I thought it would be too heavy for a warm fall day, but my dress isn't too bad. I tried on lace dresses but they weren't as flattering on my figure. I kept an open mind and tried on pretty much anything. I chose my dress because the fit is flattering and I love the details it has (it's a sweetheart neckline, with some beading, assymetrical ruching, and a corset back), I also know that FH will love it. My advice is to be open minded and try on both and as many as you need, it will most likely be a difficult decision if you love both but follow your heart.

I went in with no opinion on satin, lace or other. I tried on a bunch, and while I loved the look of the lace, I was more drawn to a chiffon dress. *Shrug* Go in with an open mind, you never know what you'll like!

I didn't want satin when I was shopping because, like Champagne, I hate that slick, shiny look. I ended up with an Italian Matte Satin ballgown. It doesn't have that 80s shine, it just shimmers.

Satin wrinkles VERY easily, I'd go with lace. Unless you have someone with a steamer following you around all night lol.

I wanted lace in the worst way - it ended up actually badly affecting my dress hunt because that's all I tried on and I just looked horrible in them. It made me feel really awful about the whole dress shopping experience. I ultimately ended up with a taffeta ruched a-line dress with a lot of sparkle and a huge train - not at all what I wanted but I knew it was the one. The consultant actually picked it and I hated it on the hanger. Once you start trying on dresses you'll really get a feel for what you want. It definitely helps to have an open mind.

I wanted a lace dress and I did end up falling in love with a lace dress with a little bit of bling. Just be open to trying on all types of dresses and fabrics. You'll know instantly which ones aren't for you.

Yes I wanted a lace dress too. I still love the look of them I just didn't end up falling in love with one. All the lace dresses I tried on that we're lace ended up making me look fat. Then I tried on a satin dress I loved it! Absolutely loved it!

I like satin, but I love lace. I tried on satin gowns, and they were beautiful, but I just kept being drawn back to lace and ended up with a lace dress.

I wonder if you could find something that has both? I tried on a dress that was satin with a lace overlay that came off if you wanted a different look.

I liked both and tried on both, but liked the satin better. I felt the lace was a little too sweet for me. I'm more sultry and was going for old Hollywood. So, satin for me.

PS-my dress was VERY structured and had a thick under layer. Absolutely no lumps or bumps.

Try on both, try on everything! You never know until you try it : )

I wanted a lace dress and ended up with a lace dress. I love the look of lace and it fit my country/rustic theme.
