Satin or lace?

So I never really liked lace dresses...until I saw some pictures of brides wearing beautiful ones at my venue. I definitely have acquired a liking for lace dresses. I haven't tried any dresses on, but these are the styles I like. I don't know which one I'll choose - satin or lace! Satin is so...

I haven't tried any dresses on, but these are the styles I like. I don't know which one I'll choose - satin or lace! Satin is so classic and elegant, and lace is so timeless and romantic. When the time comes (and if I end up liking how they both look on me), I think I'll be torn.

To you brides who haven't picked out a dress yet - which do you prefer? Satin, lace or another kind of fabric? To those of you who did choose a dress, what kind is it and why did you choose it?

I knew I wanted lace, but I told the consultant I was ready to try anything she suggested. She ended up bringing only lace, and I fell in love with the first gown I tried on (I did try more though). It is a lace trumpet gown.

I never knew what kind of dress I wanted, but I always had a feeling it was going to be lace. Part of it was because most, if not all the brides, I was in a wedding in, never was in a lace dress. Nothing wrong with it, just they always chose a satin dress. I just always liked lace to me was soft and had more character-- more vintage. I thought I wanted a keyhole back lace dress. But after trying on so many dresses...from ball gown to fitted...I fell in love with a gorgeous 3/4 sleeve dress. It was modern yet vintage. It also matched the theme we are going for-- Rustic Elegance. So lace is perfect for Rustic. It really does end up what you FEEL like in the dress and if it suits your idea/theme.

    Good LUCK!

I knew that a lace dress did not fit the overall look I was going in my wedding so I didn't even look at any. The dress I chose is silk dupioni. It has the smooth, somewhat shiny, elegant look of satin but I feel like it's more light-weight. I love it.

Try them both on and see how you feel in them! I didn't want to like lace but i tried on a lace dress and loved it. But I also tried on a satin dress and loved it even more.

I wanted a lace dress and I bought a lace dress. I just think it's so timeless and romantic and it fits my venue/feel for the day very well.. I was worried about finding lace that wasn't "old lady" lace but most of them were very pretty. But my runner up dress which was gorgeous was satin, it just didn't have the feel I wanted. I think satin tends to be a little heavier and wrinkle easier too.

Edited: And I love that second dress you posted up there! Beautiful back! Good luck dress shopping! Smiley smile

I've got a satin ballgown with a lace overlay for the top. Best of both worlds.

@Mrs.Joyceee - if you don't mind me asking what designer is your gown? My friend is also getting married and is having a hard time finding a lace dress with 3/4 sleeves.

I am a satin girl. Lace always looks dated to me.

You must try on different styles first. You will probably start with one idea and end up buying something compleatly different. I thought I wanted a lace top and plain skirt but I ended up not liking the look of lace on me. I wanted a compact, clean look thus satin was perfect. I had a plain fitted satin wedding gown with a tiny bit floral beading on the side and a detachable chapel train. It was lovely and im in love with it. Plus it was not the least bit heavy. I got to remove the train for the reception so I super comfortable to go around guests and above all dance!!!
