Replica dress from Amazon? Let me see yours!

I am considering buying a replica Mori Lee dress on Amazon, because I can't justify spending $1500+ on a dress I will wear only once. I am considering buying a replica Mori Lee dress on Amazon, because I can't justify spending $1500+ on a dress I will wear only once. The Amazon dress has a few 5 star reviews on the exact dress I'm wanting, pictures included, and they look pretty good to me. The seller has great reviews overall on almost all of their other dresses too, but I am still worried. Have any of you bought a replica dress on Amazon? Who was the seller? If you have pictures, please post them (extra points for posting a pic of the original designer dress also for comparison).

This is the dress I'm wanting replicated!

It's a knockoff (which is fraud) no matter how you word it.

Please keep us all updated when the knockoff dress comes in and looks nothing like the original dress.

I didn't want to spend 1500+ on a dress either, so I decided to buy a designer dress online that had been worn by another bride. It's in pristine condition and I only paid a few hundred dollars - very happy with my choice. I agree with previous posters about the risks/downsides about buying a counterfeit dress...not a great idea

I don't have anything against them, but I wasn't able to find anything there that looked even remotely similar to this dress. I went to DB and tried on a ton of dresses and nothing spoke to me. I tried on this Mori Lee at a bridal shop and fell in love. It's the dress I want, but I can't justify spending that kind of money on it. If replicas, inspired by, etc. aren't your thing, great...but that wasn't my question. I'm assuming that anyone who has bought a replica wouldn't even comment to answer my question at this point, due to those of you who couldn't help yourself and decided to come on my post to NOT answer my question, but give your unsolicited opinions on replicas. I get it, you're better than me. Please move along so that maybe someone who can help me might feel safe to answer my actual question.

Replica as in stealing intellectual and artistic property and copying it? So the person with the imagination and the talent gets screwed? Because 'replica' sounds so much more gentile than 'pirated', doesn't it...

I have a real problem with that; I wish everyone did.

You did hear about the lawsuit against "Blurred lines', right?

I just want to point out that both those pictures could have easily been lifted from brides who bought the actual mori lee dress and posted a pic on websites like this from trying the dress on or from wedding photos posted on websites.

I wouldn't risk buying a replica. Replica is a fancy word for knockoff, and knockoffs are theft of a designers intellectual property, and indicated a lower level of craftmanship and qualitly.

As a pp pointed out there are only so many cuts and styles for wedding dresses. I would recommend taking the photo to a bridal consignment shop or DB for their 99 sale and requesting to see a dress that is as close as possible. Or look through a verified resale site.

ETA: OP I saw your response, and this is an open forum. Anyone is allowed to comment with their opinion. If you aren't willing to spend the money for your dream dress then you may have to settle for something subpar. THe phrase "you get what you pay for" is a cliche for a reason.

All pp and myself are trying to give you honest advice and discourage you from potentially choosing a path that will leave you unhappy with your dress, out a percentage of your budget and depdning on how long that takes possibly force you to purchase off the rack at the last minute. People gave give their opinions on this forum and thats all anyone did.

This dress is also NOT available on any resell sites, except for one that is entirely too large for me. I already checked, because of course I'd like to buy an original. It's a rather new dress, so unlikely to be available used before my wedding in 6 months.

You actually can't tell anyone how to post. Its against the rules of the forum. No one has been rude to you. I've even posted links as to why its a bad idea. Why do you want a replica so badly?

Go ahead and buy it if that's what you want to do. But don't come here looking for validation about it. A cheap imitation will always look like a cheap imitation.

@lauren - so you tried a couple of websites for resale? Did you ask for similar dresses within your budget at other bridal shops? Did you check out local bridal consignment shops?

You're going to go ahead and do what you want, but all pp and myself are just trying to be honest with you so you don't end up with a horrible knock off and limited time/funds. Your wedding is already so close that you run the risk of a rushed shipment anyway if your wedding is in 6 months. I certainly wouldn't risk a knock off with that limited set of time.

If you couldn't/wouldn't afford it why did you try a gown on outside your budget?

1500 isn't excessive for a nice designer gown. I would strongly consider purchasing the original or waiting till you find a used one.

I wasn't telling anyone how to post. I was simply stating an observation that, besides for one lone poster, NO ONE has answered my actual question. Feel free to keep preaching about replicas, terrorism, etc. to your little heart's content, as this will be my last reply to anyone who isn't actually answering my question.

OK I'll give you honest feedback, most of what I've seen on this forum for my three years here of replica dresses is the dress comes in and it looks cheaply made/ different color/ totally different dress/ it doesn't fit/ etc. The poster is usually freaking out they can't return it and its so close to the wedding.

I didn't order from Amazon, but I got my dress from AliExpress for the same reason! I was TERRIFIED it was going to be hideous or awfully made but it is perfect!

My advice: if the dress is a good price (like mine was $180!) and you have enough time to receive it and order something else if it doesn't work, then go for it!!

I had a low budget for a dress because I couldn't justify spending much on one, but I did have the money to do so. All the dresses I found that I liked were WELL OVER $500 and I just couldn't do it. So I took the chance and I am SO glad I did. If it turned out to be an awful dress I was planning on just spending the money to buy one I could find in person, but I knew I would be angry at myself for not at least trying the cheaper option.

What I learned when researching the AliExpress that probably goes for all sites is that if the seller has good reviews in general, has good reviews on other clothes they have sold, and if a couple people have left good reviews on the actual dress, then it is probably a good find!! I attached a picture of the dress the seller showed, and what I received (after alterations to make it fit right since I lost weight between ordering and now).

    Good luck!!

No, I would never get a replica dress. I don't support replica makers stealing a designers hard work.

You got plenty of answers; you just didn't like them. "Replicas'', "knockoffs" whatever are cheaper for a reason, not only the obvious reason that there are no design fees.

The quality, generally, will be shit. The sizing is impossible.

And then there are the ethics, which don't seem to bother you at all.

@Lauren - Everyone's answers may not be the answers you want to hear but they are important. Some of the users here have been around for long enough to have seen other users such as yourself try to make a similar decision and then be caught in a situation where they were X amount of weeks to their wedding and stuck with a knock off that they hated or was poorly constructed and not fit to be worn on such an important occasion.

The additional questions be posed to you are also important - they show you have lots of other options than purchasing a cheap replica to try to save money.

Again - you get what you pay for and I hope you listen to the PP and make an informed decision so you aren't posting again in 4 months about the dress you bought off amazing coming out horribly and you have to buy an off the rack dress.
