Replica dress from Amazon? Let me see yours!

Lauren, on September 10, 2017 at 4:35 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 102

I am considering buying a replica Mori Lee dress on Amazon, because I can't justify spending $1500+ on a dress I will wear only once. The Amazon dress has a few 5 star reviews on the exact dress I'm wanting, pictures included, and they look pretty good to me. The seller has great reviews overall on almost all of their other dresses too, but I am still worried. Have any of you bought a replica dress on Amazon? Who was the seller? If you have pictures, please post them (extra points for posting a pic of the original designer dress also for comparison).

This is the dress I'm wanting replicated!

I'm pretty sure that's the exact dress that I got! So pretty! My total ended up being 1400 something, including tax. I'm not 100% though because I didn't care who the designer was all I knew is that I loved the dress. Personally I wouldn't get a dress off amazon but that's up to you as its your dress.

I got a replica, not from Amazon, but from a seller that had good reviews and it turned out to look EXACTLY like the real thing, for a fraction of the price. However, even though I gave them my exact measurements, it is way too small and is so itchy I cannot wear it. I say, proceed with caution.

I wouldn't buy a replica dress. The designers are stealing someone else's work, so ethically that's a problem for me. I'm also simply not willing to take a chance on receiving a hot mess, and starting all over again just a short time before the wedding. Those replica makers are well known to fake their reviews. There are beautiful dresses at all price points and pre-owned dresses available at greatly reduced prices.

"Replica"? You mean fraud and theft of the designer's intellectual property.

No. Have not, would not, will not.

I'd rather shop the David's $99 sale than buy a fake dress. Fakes such as handbags are often associated with terrorism. I'm assuming wedding dress fakes are as well.

Also, the dresses you receive tend to look totally different than whats sent. https://www.buzzfeed.com/sapna/say-no-to-the-dress?utm_term=.kpmL89nYJ#.ghLJrma1n

I still wouldn't buy a replica. Inspired by is one thing but knock offs are another. You should check out David's Bridal and Coco Melody. They are both legitimate sellers with great prices.

Fashion (particularly bridal fashion) is much like music, where there are a finite number of fabrics, silhouettes, etc to work with, so at some point, there will be duplication and/or repetition. There are a ton of different dresses out there that are almost indistinguishable from each other...so I personally don't believe that this is "stealing" or "fraud" per se. I can respect the opinions of those of you who think so, I guess...unless you're rude about it.

I find copying someones design exactly is fraud. Its not inspired by, its a knockoff. Inspired by I never have a problem with. I bought an inspired by Celine Target bag the other day. However it had enough differences that it wasn't copying someone else's ideas.

Based on the photos of the actual dresses, it certainly wouldn't be considered a knock off. I would lean more toward it being "inspired by". Perhaps my choice of words was poor, I didn't realize that "replica" was not interchangeable I guess...

Yeah, there are dresses out there that look similar, but that's a whole different level from obviously and intentionally cheaply ripping off a specific dress. You didn't ask "anyone know of a similar dress for cheaper?", you asked about a "replica" of a specific dress.

This is totally fraud. If you want a cheap knock off, fine, but at least own the fact that it's a fraud.

    I'd way rather buy pre-owned, a sample, or from David's during a $99 sale than a cheaply made rip-off.

ETA: just because the pictures of what you actually get don't match the designer picture, that doesn't mean it's not a knockoff. Most of the reason the knockoffs are cheaper is because the fabric and craftsmanship is lower, so the dresses won't ever end up looking exactly like the real thing.

I'd still be careful. Buying a wedding dress online often leads to the fabric looking off, not fitting properly, or not even getting the right item. http://www.knockoffnightmares.com/

I have a problem with someone specifically saying they are doing 'replication' gowns. Or essentially knock offs.

I get that it happens. But I have a hard time with flat out duping a design.

Ita like that scene in devil wears Prada when Glenn Close points out Ann Hathaway is wearing last seasons poly blend blue target sweater that Glenn close had picked for the last seasons line.

Like. You're not better for doing it. It's still part of the industry. Pay for a quality product and be done with it.

Inspired by or replica, it's using another designer photo to sell the product. I would take caution and expect lesser quality. Even if looks similar, I can guarantee the quality will lack. As other PPs have said, look on DB and Cocomelody.

This is straight from the NY Times article I posted above:

"Kelly said that the group accused of the Madrid train bombings in 2004, which killed 191 people, had used proceeds from the sale of pirated CDs to fund their activities. The U.S. authorities have also said that another group sells counterfeit goods, including fake Viagra, to support Hezbollah, the militant group in Lebanon."

Fakes can and do hurt people. What do you have against David's Bridal or Coco Melody for affordable dresses?

Lauren, you even called it a "replica Mori Lee" dress. Replica. To replicate. To create something of identical appearance. If you want a knock off dress, get the knock off dress. But at least call a spade a spade.

Also, the music industry has pretty strict copyright theft regulations in place, so that's a bad comparison.

Before buying any "replica" dress anywhere try on some dresses first. I was in love with a mori Lee dress but when I tried it on in person it wasn't what I wanted, it didn't look good on my body and went with something completely different.
