Rehearsal Dinner Photography? Did you? Are you?

Brit12, on February 17, 2016 at 11:44 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

So my mom and I are really interested in having a photographer at the rehearsal dinner so we don't have to worry about taking pictures all night and even if our guests do take pictures, it's kind of a hassle to get them from everyone once it's over. So we thought it would be nice to have professional quality photos all in one place.

FH is totally against it and doesn't understand why we would want this, he says we are going there, eating and leaving. That it will be awkward to have a photographer taking our photos while we eat.

Is FH right? Am I crazy for wanting this? Will it be a waste of a photographer??

If you had one could you share some photos?? Was it worth it?? Did you like it?? Share your experience.

I think it seems like an unnecessary expense.

I didn't have one. I asked my dad to take a picture of the wedding party using my phone once we finished the rehearsal. I'm not sure why you'd need photos of the rehearsal or dinner outside of that. I'm with your FH on this one.

Not once did this ever cross my mind. I don't think it's necessary.

Don't do it. Get someone else to do it for you all that is willing to voluntarily do it.

I would have loved to have a photographer at the dinner at least for a couple hours. We had family members taking a lot of pictures but I've never seen them and would love to have them.

Nah, I wouldn't. You'll have plenty of pics from the big day! No need for a stranger to photograph you with dinner in your mouth. Smiley smile

I suppose if you were having a very formal RD (for an uber formal wedding) I might see it but usually RDs are just too casual to be worth a photographer to me. I mean at the wedding itself how many pics do you think the photographer will take while everyone is eating? Heck, he will probably be eating himself. And eating is a large part of the RD. Other than sometimes toasts that's about it usually. So to me it just doesn't make sense to have pics of people eating dinner. I'd rather use that money on really good food for the RD.

If your mother wants to spring for it, let her. But at most, all you need is a waiter to take a group shot and you'll be good.

Not hiring a professional, but we will have a photographer (friend's sons who are in film school) there taking pictures.

I have photographed several Rehearsal Dinners and think they are some of the best photos! The guest list is usually only the closest friends and family so everyone is relaxed, having fun, and being themselves.

Our photographer has this as an option instead of engagement pictures. It just seems like a waste to me. If you are having a super nice party type dinner, then I guess I understand it a little more. But all in all, seems like a waste
