Rant - IT IS NOT YOUR DAY

I see people posting all the time about "Do what you want, it's your day!" Well I am here to tell you that it is NOT your day! First off, you are getting married to someone. I see people posting all the time about "Do what you want, it's your day!" Well I am here to tell you that it is NOT your day! First off, you are getting married to someone. So there is at least one other person who is involved (and they are kind of important...or should be). Second, the day you invite/include one other person to/in your wedding and reception it no longer becomes "your day." You now have to think about these guests and their wants and needs.

No, you can't invite someone to the wedding or to be in the wedding and then boot them. That is rude and tacky and it makes people not like you. They WILL talk about you to others and then others will know you were a crappy person during your wedding.

No, you can not get mad because for a year people don't abandon their lives in honor of your wedding planning. That is just dumb to even expect that.

Your bridal party is not there to be your glitter covered slaves! They have lives outside of your wedding and just because

Agree with PP who summed it up. The ceremony is YOURS and FH. The reception is for the guests. There are certain decisions that are all you/FH. But when it directly affects others' budgets, time, dietary allergies or whatnot.... You have to be good hosts.

Agreed. The second someone steps foot outside their front door to be your guest it stops being all about you.

These posts are overdone and honestly serve no purpose sorry. People are going to do what they wanna do no matter how many times a post like this goes up.

@Leah what I mean is this post is just preaching to the choir. I've seen a lot of these types of posts lately and yet there are still a flood of honeyfund, dry wedding, over the top bridesmaid duty, and every other kind of breach of etiquette posts you can think of on a daily basis.

I thought it was my day until I stumbled bleary eyed in what is ww, full of bullshit expectations and a lot of pomp.

You gracious wedding fairies have shown me the way.

We didn't get a honeymoon, and our dresses came from a consignment store. But the biggest expense at our wedding? Providing accommodations for all our guests. They were coming from all over the country, and we wanted to have more time with them than just a few sentences at the reception.

No, not everyone has to do exactly what we did. But the principle that you should be grateful to your guests and try to do nice things for them, rather than treating them as just props for you photos, still stands.

Your birthday is not your day. You were born on a specific hour, minutes and seconds.

Same as your wedding day, you get a few hours that's it and even then it's not your day!

@FutureMrsC I post this because there are people here who really are open minded and when people tell them this they are getting bad advice. Hopefully there will be a few who see these posts and change their mind. If people see this and don't change their mind then they have no one to blame but themselves when people speak negatively of them and their wedding.

Wait, lol, I just finished reading the comments. @Special, please don't equate marriage equality and women's reproductive rights with "the right to not host properly".
