QUESTION: Does our candy buffet have to match our colors?

For our June at-home reception, I definitely want to do a candy buffet. But our colors our fuschia, purple, and black, which means candy in those flavors have the potential to be disgusting (black licorice, anyone?). So, can I just tie matching color ribbon around the jars and use non-matching...

For our June at-home reception, I definitely want to do a candy buffet. But our colors our fuschia, purple, and black, which means candy in those flavors have the potential to be disgusting (black licorice, anyone?).

So, can I just tie matching color ribbon around the jars and use non-matching candy? Think hershey's minature nuggets, fun-size snickers, silver hershey's kisses, etc. Or would that look bad? I'm thinking about putting flowers and signs on the table and using purple, fuschia, and black take-out containters to tie in our colors. I'm also thinking about wrapping ribbon around the container or finding black canisters.

Is this a bad idea?

Here's an example I found:

We are using ribbon in wedding colors and I have scrapbook paper that is color coordinating that Im going to put the labels on... Im not concerned about the color too much. You can add fabric and flowers to make it work. Plus who wants candy that matches but tastes bad? Here's what we are doing.

I have bought so much candy its not even funny... i bought anything to everything on sale. Dont worry about colors or bowls. Go to the 1 store and get plastic bowls. What you going to do with the bowls after? Save the money! Trust mE!

Great idea to use the colored ribbon. with easter around the corner maybe you can find some hershey kisses wrapped in foil to match your color scheme.

I am so glad you asked this question. Lol. Our colors are blue & lavendar. I bought an assortment of candy from Walmart & Deals discount store. So far we have tootsie rolls, licorice (red), gum balls, blow pops, charlie ranchers, bubble gum, kool aid straws, tootsie roll pops, soft peppermints, & fish. All I need now are the mm's.

I purchased my glass jars from Marshal's ($3-5) & Michaels (2 for $5). The clear goodie bags from a dollar store. I don't have to worry about shipping & handling & the price was cheap for the candy.

BTW - I was at TJ Maxx yesterday and they had a TON of really amazing giant apothecary jars. Everything was $9.99 - way less than craft stores even after a coupon!

We got a couple of white dessert stands, also $9.99. Bonus - they match the china pattern we registered for so maybe we'll actually use them after the wedding. lol.

I got candy that I knew everyone would like to eat...so the matching candy idea was never part of my plan.

I would not worry about matching the candy with your colors, the ribbions will be fine. I had a friend order her candy to match her davids bridal colors exactly but she did not taste the candy first and although they matched they all tasted gross : (

I don't think it is an issue either. While our candy did match, it was because it was a fall theme, and they are easy to find.

I think you are good to go with matching ribbon and tags, etc.

I also agree with Leslie. I often wonder what those candy buffet to hire companies use for candy. I would rather mismatched colors than Palmer chocolate.

Oh, and yes, I love black licorice and jelly beans. However, I didn't serve them. I realize I am one of the strange few.

Also....I know this is going to sound weird, but....have you considered putting out some dried fruit like Craisins, Banana Chips, dried blueberries etc. The more "mature" I get the more I really enjoy things like this. They could be a real hit with your "mature" guests who could have sugar issues. Also, Walmart's "Great Value" brand of dried cranberries are very inexpensive and taste just like the Ocean Spray "Craisins". They also have blueberries, etc.

We are trying to match, but then again, our colors are red, white, and black. We are ordering the black and white lolipop swirls from orientaltrading and the rest will probably be white chocolate covered pretzels, swedish fish, m&ms, twizzlers, yougurt covered raisins. I am debating on using different colored candies...

I originally had wanted to match, but my colors are aqua and coral, which translates to pink and blue in the candy selection... it made me think of a baby shower, yuck. So I added orange, yellow, dark and light blue, and pink, and the colors all look really good together.
