Postponing wedding

candace, on March 29, 2020 at 6:54 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 7

My wedding is on April 24th. I need to start thinking about postponing our special event. Where to start? I am so bummed. This covid 19 doesn't seem to have an end in sight. What will be the new date? Any support will be greatly appreciated

Start by calling your vendors. I spoke with my venue first and picked a new date, then I called every vendor and asked if they could change the date. Good luck! My wedding is now in November 😪

Just call everyone. Goal is to postpone until mid July. All vendors realize that if crap hasnt settled, we'll change the date again. No biggie. You'll check dates. You might lose a vendor. If so, you'll just get a new oneSmiley smile

I’m here with you. My wedding was supposed to be April 4th. We had everything done, for all intents and purposes. Just a little fine tuning here and there. One by one, though, things came tumbling down. First, my sister (and maid of honor) told me not a lot of people were RSVPing to my bachelorette party, and she thought it was because they were too scared. Then, Illinois shut down all the restaurants, including the one where our rehearsal dinner was going to be. We knew what we had to do. Our venue has some dates left from August through October. We just need to pick one. Our other vendors have all agreed to keep working with us under the terms of our original contracts. It’s been two weeks since we decided to postpone. I know it’s the right thing to do, but I still get sad for it.

On a more personal note: I was supposed to be getting married this Saturday. When I was first ordered to work from home indefinitely, I almost immediately saw the writing on the wall. The next day my FH's niece was ordered into quarantine, and her final date would have been right before their flight down to a hot zone. That plus my fmil is immunocompromised and should not be outside at all. We threw in the towel that first week and rescheduled, and I'm glad we did. Call all of your vendors, starting with the ones you care about most, and see what date they'll work with. We went with August with the idea that this might be over by April, but it sounds like we may be in for a long trek. And I will say as soon as we decided to move it we felt a ton better. I stopped obsessing over the news, and we were able to just focus on surviving quarantine.

Deep breaths girl. We'll get through this. Just focus on one day at a time right now and take care of everyone.
