Postponing the wedding

Mary , on August 16, 2016 at 9:40 PM

So, y'all have heard already I'm postponing the wedding for a while but I do have a question. Is it rude to go ahead and have the shower that is scheduled for Saturday? Both of us have people coming in from out of town/ out of state for it. What should I do?

@Niki tell Gertrude that she has nothing to worry about. ASR is using the box. It was a location issue.

Nikki, I don't think you have much to worry about. You know ASR comes from a good home.

I am so happy for couple. Will any parts of the ceremony be recorded? Is there a wedding website we can visit?

Mary, you don't really want to shoot the neighbor's dog, do you? If you do, I can't talk to you in good conscience.

You postponed the wedding. That was probably the right choice (nobody does that unless they've seen the light). Your shower? Well, I think you're pretty fortunate that a majority of your guests are flying in for a wedding shower. In my family, that would only happen if a mother or sister were out of state.

If I was informed that your wedding had been postponed for over a year, I'd probably cancel my attendance at your shower. I certainly wouldn't send the gift (in fact, I'd return it to the store, and wait to see how things progressed). Would I fly into town for a bridal shower that morphed into a luncheon? No, I wouldn't. I would speak to the airline and ask them how I could possibly transfer the cost of my ticket to something else, and what the time limit would be on something like that.

I know everyone is having fun with your cat and his neuter party/marriage, but I'm still stuck on you calling friends and local family to tell them that the shower is canceled and they're not on the revised wedding guest list. Actually, somewhere, early in this thread, you wrote that people were invited to the shower under the "pretense" that they were also invited to the wedding. I'm sure you didn't use the word correctly, so I'd suggest you be very careful in how you proceed from here -- as far as your verbiage is concerned.

You do realize that you don't have to have whatever you recently realized you can't afford, right? It would be just as beautiful to skip the shower and host 20 family members and friends at a private ceremony followed by a restaurant reception. You can still wear your gown, carry your flowers, cut a wedding cake, toast with champagne, and have some great photos taken.

    Just something to consider....

ETA: Here's your quote from the middle of page 6, Mary: "They were invited to the shower with the pretense of getting a wedding invite." You couldn't possibly mean what this statement implies, right?

I'm waiting for Mary to drop a bombshell that ASR's wedding has been cancelled because Gertrude discovered he has a porn addiction!

Edited because it's early and I can't spell without coffee! LOL

@Centerpeices the neighbor's dogs are alive and well. I didn't shoot them. I was frustrated that day and out of options. I've taking to setting a live trap now and if they get in it, calling animal control.

Secondly, I didn't not mean that to say the word it did. I just couldn't think of the word I wanted
