Postponing but already sent out invites? Too soon for new date?

Abby, on April 8, 2020 at 3:28 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 5
We decided to postpone our May wedding until November, but had already gone about sending out invitations and received a lot of save-the-dates back already. I’m planning on sending a card out detailing that we’re postponing and directing people to Re-RSVP On our wedding website. My concern is that it’s so far in advance and I don’t want to have to separately send out more RSVPs and worry about getting them back. Should I still send them out before our original wedding so people know?

Depending on how large your group is, maybe send out a group(s) email stating the new change in date. And then send invites for the new date August/September!

It’s over 200 people and about 135 invites... so lots of stamps

I let everyone know we postponed via text/email. I think I will probably let people know the new date in a month or so once things have calmed down since the pandemic should be everyone's priority.

I am sending a change the date card out in May or June for our wedding in September and having people RSVP online. I am not resending invitations closer to the date because it's a waste of money and time.

Oh girl, that’s a lot for sure! We sent out change the dates with a details card stating to RSVP by a certain date on our website! That way you’re only sending out something one more time. They have an option to put guests emails on the website & will send them emails when it comes closer to the RSVP date to remind them!

    Hi Abby,

I'm so sorry you had to change your plans, but you are not alone. Keeping a positive attitude (through a funny announcement) can only help during this unprecedented situation.

Here are a couple of discussions with postponement examples:

    - Coronavirus Postpone Announcements

    - Website Wording for Postponed Weddings due to COVID-19

You'll also find more information (less funny) here: How to Word Your Wedding Postponement Announcement. There's also a glass half-full perspective piece: “My Wedding Was Postponed Due to Covid-19, but Now I Get a ‘Do-Over’” (with a link to a video at the bottom).

I would send out the updated invite prior to your original wedding date. Direct the guests to your wedding website and it will go seamlessly!

I'm wishing you the best of luck! nLxcI1gBilPA_DYsaorCTBp6X1DzLckXmXiZsyyg
