Post-Wedding Brunch?

Riss, on January 12, 2011 at 11:51 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

I am debating between having a post-wedding brunch, or just nixing the idea? Some pros and cons would be helpful! Smiley smile

We will just be eating brunch with family the next day. It is an unannounced thing and everyone will pay there own. Just is nice to spend time with my out of towners that I do not see too often.

We did one, after my daughters wedding. Those invited were the Bridal Party, parents, grandparents and one Aunt. In all, 14 guests were at the brunch, 20 were invited, but not all could stay through that time frame.

The Bride and Groom opened their gifts at this casual brunch.

I'm doing one. For me, it's going to be primarily to spend more time with some of the out-of-town guests that I didn't get to hang out with during the wedding. A good friend of college did one after her wedding and it was great. At the hotel where we were all staying, so anyone who spent the night just went downstairs and enjoyed breakfast and good company.

I'm doing a brunch the next day because I have out of town guests and I wanted to actually be able to spend some time with them before we depart for our honeymoon.

We're nixing the brunch since our reception doesn't end til 1am and most guests will probably keep drinking until the hotel bar closes at 2. Instead we're doing a party later in the day (thinking 5pm -2am) at a pub in the city. FH knows the owner and they are being beyond generous to us (enough so that we can offer open bar and drinks) so it should be a good time for all (and everyone will be just receovered enough from the wedding festivities to attend).

We're doing one at an independent restaurant attached to the hotel where we're getting married. We're excited to be able to talk to people we haven't seen for a while more than we will be able to at the wedding. (We're also doing a party, after the rehearsal dinner, the night before the wedding for our young OOT people the night before for the same reason.)

We got a super deal of a flat fee of $1200 (up to 62 people, which is half our wedding) and considering our per person plate cost for the reception is over $200, it seemed totally worth it to us.

We're doing one. We go to the same place every Sunday for brunch. We haven't decided yet if we will have one at the hotel, or have this brunch place cater.

We did an informal one at the hotel restaurant. We put it in the OOT bags that the bride and groom will be having brunch between 8-10 if you wanted to say good bye and join. The place did not do reservations so people just came in got tables and Darren and I just walked around again. It was great! I wonderful way to end the weekend with my friends and family.

We're doing one, and just mentioning to guests that we'll be at the restaurant at 11 am for brunch if they want to stop by. Hoping this way it's clear that we're not hosting it, and people will be expected to pay for themselves.

Our hall rental included use of the hall and kitchen the next day (sunday). So we had some awesome family volunteers that made pancakes and sausages the next morning. We also had fruit platters, juice, coffee and tea. After breakfast we opened our gifts. Then tidied up and left. It was nice to give those who had a long drive home, a free homemade breakfast.

We also did an informal "You're welcome to join us for brunch the next day if you want." We had a Vegas DW, so we just all met at noon at the Bellagio Buffet for the champagne brunch. It was very good, and gave us more time to talk, although we couldn't all get seated together so DS & I had to do some circulating.

We are having a super bowl party the next day. Most of our out of town guests are staying through the week so it was our chance to hang out with them.

Pros - a chance to further spend some time with guests in a more relaxed environment. It's a nice way to end the wedding festivities.

Cons - can get expensive. If you're not going to pay for brunch, you have to be very careful in the wording and announce it informally (i.e., not in the invitation). Generally, if you tell the guests that you're having a brunch, they'll assume that you're paying.

Also, what are your plans for the rest of the day? If you're leaving for your honeymoon or traveling back to your home that same day, you may feel rushed and overwhelmed with the brunch.
