Plus Sized Brides...where did you shop for dresses!

Yoshino , on June 9, 2012 at 6:45 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 26

Hello all, so i am a plus size bride and I am having the darndest time with this dress thing. I know that many stores say they can order the dress for you in up to size 26 or 30 in some cases, but I mean lets keep it real...Who is buying a dress sight unseen?!?!?!?!?!? I travel some for work so I am going to a specialty shop in Phoenix(sales plus size dresses only) in about a week, but I am looking for other options. I've had 6 dress appointment so far (including the Brides by Lori's from Say Yes to the Dress). The issue is that in my budget which is max $2000) the options are sooo not cool. I find that i have to call the places first to see if they even carry the dress in a sample size that i can try on...I am open to locations if you know of them in Atlanta, Delaware, new Hampshire, Massachudestes or Tucson. And of course surrounding areas.

Im plus size and buying a cosplay wedding gown. Granted, mine isn't white (i'm in love with the dress though). they did custom fittings from a huge size (like size 80 in the uk) down to my perfect size. I mean, it is cosplay, they do have wedding gowns, they're willing to do what you want with them. Mine's $325. Also, there's this place.

When you look for cosplay white bridal gowns links like above show up. They're dresses with huge discounts and the kind you want. To play it safe, get a size bigger. Then you have just worry about having it tailored (which most places do for pretty decent prices).

    Good luck hun!

I got my dress from David's Bridal... It was $700 and amazing... I love it I'm a size 26/28 so I was really worried about finding a dress but they had a very large selection of plus sized samples... The dress I got was being tried on by a women next to me who was maybe a size 8... I said you wouldn't have that in my size would you? and they actually did! I love it and couldn't be happier... I had a great experience there.

Well, if/when you come back to Atlanta.... check out New Natalie's.... that's where I bought my dress (I am also plus size)... they have a HUGE selection (compared to other bridal shops that I went to) of plus sized gowns for you to try on. Not to mention, a lot of their dresses are under $1200.

The reviews I read online weren't really all that great... but I made an appointment anyway because I wasn't having any luck finding many dresses to try on. I was super impressed with their selection. I was actually able to try something on and not feel horrible about it! If you go... try getting Carty... she was super helpful and nice. Smiley smile

Try simplybridal.com. Their prices are like chinese knockoffs but they have a showroom in LA and lots of good feedback online. They are on facebook and youtube also. We're taking our vacay in October and decided to go to LA to visit their showroom. They have a few gowns I adore.

Take a look at the stores in those areas that carry Sophia Tolli gowns. They're very likely to have a decent selection of dresses in all sizes.

So I got my dress from David's Bridal during one of the $99 sales, and with the money saved I'm having it customized to my liking (adding some buttons to the back or a corset style, and maybe a little imbelishment). I think it's a great way to take a style you may like but not love, and make it your own unique design. Smiley smile

I'm also a plus size bride and found my dress at BotticellI. It's in Providence, RI which May be out of your way. There dresses start at size 16 and go up. My budget was 1000 and I found my dream dress and add length to it BC I'm 5'10 all within my budget. They are wondeful there and if you don't mind traveling a little I would go there! Good luck!

My dress is from Allure bridals... I am from Canada, but they have a store locator on their wedsite where you can find stores who carry their brand. http://www.allurebridals.com/wheretobuy I had a hard time with finding a store that had any dresses I could tired on. I called ahead and asked it the store had plus size dresses to try on in my size. They all said yes, but when I got there, ther was maybe 1 or 2 dresses that was in my size and the rest I had to hold up to my body to see if I like it. It was frustrating at times b/c bridal stores were telling me I would have to order a dress without ever trying it on due to my size. I actually bought my dress off the rack (size 30) at a wedding store that had more plus sized dresses then smaller sizes. Mine was $1600, but i got money taken off for buying it off the rack. Best of luck in finding your dream dress. my dress in the picture below.
