I purchased my dress for less than it's retail price online , after falling in love w it at Davids Bridal. I wanted a High-low dress, the dress I purchased was not "high-low" cut I was told it could easily be transformed into one. My Fiance's aunt, recommended a seamstress who owns her own dress shop across town. I went and brought photos of how I wanted my dress transformed and the lady informed me she could make it happen. I put the dress on and she comes at me with scissors and starts to cut the front layers of my dress in a upside down "U" shape. I was mortified, the dress was choppy and uneven, but she insisted she knew exactly what she was doing. She assured me that in a week my dress would be clean and perfected and ready for pick up, 3 days later I get a call that my dress is ready. I was excited to get my dress back, but when I tried it on , it looks like a 2 year old cut it, and the sewing is uneven and just horrible. My dress is destroyed! Now what do I do?

Okay- I'm going to ask the dumb question- why didn't you just buy one of those.

it would have taken a VERY high level professional to transform a straight A line into that dress.

Yeah. I know very few people that I know 100% could do that alteration and I know people who make ballet costumes...

She should have turned it down instead of even trying, and whoever said it could easily be transformed needs to be shot

I couldn't find the dress I really wanted. My budget was minimal. I found this dress at Davids Bridal, It was on sale for $700 , so I wen't on tons of websites looking to see if anyone was selling it used. I found mine, new with tags... previous owner changed her mind. Honestly, I didn't think it would be hard to do. Im pretty naive when it comes to things like this. I should have known better, but I trusted the fact that she has her own business, and the recommendation from my Fiance's aunt. Smiley sad

    :-(

Since you only have a month you should look at Asos (modern, inexpensive looks), Modcloth (all fairly inexpensive and they have some high/low dresses), or JCrew Wedding Suite (classic, more expensive looks).

Yeah. Big mistake- I'm sorry your dress was ruined- but yeah.

Those are high end fashion gowns. They come with a high price.

now you know why they cost that much. Knock offs and want to be's are just that.

this is why you pay for what you get.

let this be a hard lesson- high end comes with a high price for a VERY good reason.

Scrap this dress- find something else and be happy with it.

Hire a lawyer- or ruin her business blasting those pictures across the world (although- pick one- you can't have both)

Hope you get any of your money back.

    You have a month.

You have no time for a dream dress.

You have time- to find a dress. And that's it. You honestly cannot afford to be insanely picky- I'm sure you can absolutely find a brilliant and beautiful dress- but you need a very wide field of vision.

And considering how badly this turned out for you- . well- I'm rooting for you- but don't get hung up "dream dress"

It is after all Just a dress.

JennyFromTheHall, If my "watermelon" could not be transformed into the "apple" it was the responsibility of the seamstress to inform me. I know nothing about what is or is not impossible to do from a seamstress' stand point. I trusted the person who's in the business of making, and altering wedding gowns. I clearly learned my lesson, but she is still to blame.

After seeing pictures, I am convinced that you need to take her to small claims court...after your wedding. For now, focus on getting a new dress. Good luck!

For those blaming the OP for wanting to do the impossible, she isn't a sartorial expert. That's why she hired one (or someone who claimed to be one). The seamstress should have told her it was too complex and not taken the job.

I'm really sorry this happened to you! I know how it feels to give your dress to someone and they ruin it. She should've told you she didn't have the tools! Omg. I can't imagine taking on a job I'm not 100% sure I can do! You're a customer with a need, she couldn't provide the service and she should've told you! It's all HER fault! And you can find a new "dream" dress, be decisive and fast. Like someone already said after all it is just a dress.

    Has anyone defended the seamstress?

Nope. She was 100% in the wrong for taking the job.

But even the most basic level of understanding of dresses you can see this was a bad idea. I'm betting if she has a contract it has a line about the extreme nature of the alterations.

OMG, I don't know what is worse the dress or her customer service. I am so sorry you are going through this. I wouldn't bother with a new seamstress, get a new dress and then once that is done, move on to review writing.

Op, what about this. I'm putting something together, but I'm on my iPad, so I'll be editing a couple of times as I pull stuff together. Sorry!

Buenos Ninos Women's 26'' Length 50s Vintage Rockabilly Petticoat Tutu Skirt Crinoline Underskirt Hot pink XS-M https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019RK52A6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_juPSxbAXHPEDF

    With this over it:

Vintage Pink Crinoline Petticoat for Prom Homecoming Dresses Size S BP56-4 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017NCHHDU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_jvPSxbKX90RXB

Underneath an actual hi-Low dress from David's Bridal (hunting a link, will add shortly!).

I don't know your size, but this is up to size 12 on sale for $450. http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_organza-and-tulle-high-low-gown-with-beaded-flower-ai26010039

Okay, I think that's everything. You might need some adjustments to the two petticoats, BUT it will sort of give you the pink ombré look you want and the dress is part of their online sample sale. It's the closest that I think you're going to get though, sorry.
