Please Help!! Wedding dress nightmare!!!! Wedding is a month away.

Vanessa, on August 15, 2016 at 10:07 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 80

I purchased my dress for less than it's retail price online , after falling in love w it at Davids Bridal. I wanted a High-low dress, the dress I purchased was not "high-low" cut I was told it could easily be transformed into one. My Fiance's aunt, recommended a seamstress who owns her own dress shop across town. I went and brought photos of how I wanted my dress transformed and the lady informed me she could make it happen. I put the dress on and she comes at me with scissors and starts to cut the front layers of my dress in a upside down "U" shape. I was mortified, the dress was choppy and uneven, but she insisted she knew exactly what she was doing. She assured me that in a week my dress would be clean and perfected and ready for pick up, 3 days later I get a call that my dress is ready. I was excited to get my dress back, but when I tried it on , it looks like a 2 year old cut it, and the sewing is uneven and just horrible. My dress is destroyed! Now what do I do?

Oh no! I'm sorry that happened. Is there any hope in a seamstress being able to fix it? If so, bring it to a trusted seamstress. Be willing to spend more. If it is unsalvagable, maybe you could find a new one off the rack? Sorry, I'm not much help...

Oh, no! That's terrible! If it's really that bad she should reimburse you for the cost of the dress. There was a similar thread on here earlier today that you should search for. Another bride's dress was hemmed unevenly.

Can you show us pictures of the dress? It's hard to help if we don't know what it looks like.

What everyone else has said. We need some pictures to know what we're working with and come up with solutions

I took it to another shop in Farmington, who confirmed my dress was destroyed. She insisted that I go back to the woman who destroyed my dress and demand a new dress, and to retrieve all of the material that she chopped off my dress. She said she could fix my dress but would have to cut the entire skirt off my dress and start over.

Eta: Never mind, picture was posted as I was typing.

Given your very short timeline, I would just buy a new dress off the rack and be done with it.

Oy. I wouldn't even try to salvage it. I'd just try off the rack.

The bustle she added is also uneven, it doesn't even hold up the longest part of the train.

I'm so sorry this happened! Did the seamstress think that her work actually looked good? The dress was gorgeous before.

eta: I would try off the rack, maybe they will have the original dress you liked from David's bridal? I've heard they can get dresses in super quickly, too!

First I want to tell you how sorry I am this has happened to you! I would be so pissed. If I were you, I would do as PP said and go back to the seamstress and demand to be reimbursed. Then go buy one off the rack. Unless of course you have faith in seamstress #2 when she said she could do a whole new skirt...

Omg. Oyy. It was beautiful before! David's won't even take that back now. You're going to have to find a new one off the rack.

Oh god. I would buy one off the rack or try to fix that one - there must be someone who can fix it?! If not then keep that dress and bring that lady to court after the wedding to get your money back. What a bummer.
