Planning Milestones: Choosing your Maid of Honor

How did you choose who would be your Maid of Honor on your special day? Did you choose a family member? a lifelong friend? A new friend? A co-worker? A future in-law? What made them the "one" to stand with you? I chose my niece Savannah. She's the only one I would have wanted to be up there with me....

I chose my niece Savannah. She's the only one I would have wanted to be up there with me. I may be 49 and she may be 27, but she's one of the best women, one of the best persons I know. She loves me more than any of my friends, and probably more than about anyone in my family (equal only to her brother)

My Matron of Honor is my younger sister. I was Maid of Honor at her wedding as well. We are only having our siblings in our wedding party (other than FG/RB of course) to keep things simple and with no drama.

This is what I did also. Although now my younger sister will be getting married in June before me so I guess I have 2 Matron of Honors

This was such a hard choice for me! I wanted my sister or lifelong best friend to be my Maid/Matron of honor BUT they live in NY and I am in FL and I knew they wouldn't be able to do a lot from far away. I chose my best friend from college who I have stayed very close with (even though she lives 4 hours from me). She was so honored and honestly it was the best call because shes a teacher and super organized and detail orientated (I DEFINITELY am not) and she planned her own wedding back in 2017 so she has helped a lot!

I don't think I am going to have a Maid of Honor, but if I do it will be the one friend that lives closes to me (since most are out of state). It will just be easier for her to help plan details, etc.

My MOH is my best friend. We've been best friends for years. She's been with me through everything. Couldn't imagine it being anyone but her.

I chose my very best friend of 8 years to be my MOH. She's truly been there for me through thick and thin and knows me better than anyone.

I chose not to have a MOH. To me, picking a favorite was just to hard. So I am just having bridesmaids and bridesmen, which are my favorite people Smiley smile

I chose my sister to be my Matron of Honor. She is my bestest friend and couldn't imagine anyone else in that role!!! Probably the easiest decision I've made as of yet lol.

I have 3 sisters who are my best friends. We are all very close and I knew I'd have to pick between the 3 of them but I chose my older sister because I knew she'd be the most excited to help me plan, walk me through things (she's married so she had tips!) and help with so much other stuff. My other sisters were okay with it because neither of them wanted to give a speech Smiley smile

My MOH is one of my best friends, and is one half of the couple that introduced me to my FH. Her husband is a groomsmen and her daughter is our flower girl

There was no question who would be my matron of honor. My FH's sister is also one of my best friends and the one who introduced us by inviting me to their birthday party with the family (FH & his sister have early october birthdays). It wouldn't be right to have anyone else.

My MOH is Beth. We've been friends since high school, but got much closer as adults. She is one of the most caring, selfless, creative people I know and I love her.

TBH, I am very young. I was 21 when I got engaged and I was so excited that I asked my cousin who I had, at the time, become extremely close with. Almost immediately, I regretted this, as I had originally planned on asking my best friend since 1st grade and sister when I got engaged. I still asked my sister to be my maid of honor; my cousin was asked to be the matron of honor, but there were problems almost immediately. Whether it was her refusing to attend a bachelorette party, no matter where it was, if her baby couldn't come along. (her husband and mother live in her home with her and are both off every weekend and offered to watch her child.) or her making condescending remarks everytime she asked about who/what type of vendors I had hired.. "A videographer? really? you are so extra. bridezilla!" It was becoming clear it wouldn't work so she was asked to step down and my incredible best friend who was never upset with me for not choosing her (in hindsight, I may have been if I was her so that was wrong of me) stepped up and has been more involved in and supportive of my california wedding while she is living in arizona than my cousin who lives a mile away.

I have learned from my mistake and tell other brides not to choose their wedding party during the initial excitement the first few weeks after getting engaged. (unless it's a sister, best friend for yeaaaaars that you have been positive you would choose for forever)

My best friend since middle school. Mostly because she lives the closest to me and because she is very organized. I helped her plan her wedding and she is beyond excited to help me plan mine.
