Planning Milestones: Choosing your Maid of Honor

How did you choose who would be your Maid of Honor on your special day? Did you choose a family member? a lifelong friend? A new friend? A co-worker? A future in-law? What made them the "one" to stand with you? I chose my niece Savannah. She's the only one I would have wanted to be up there with me....

I chose my niece Savannah. She's the only one I would have wanted to be up there with me. I may be 49 and she may be 27, but she's one of the best women, one of the best persons I know. She loves me more than any of my friends, and probably more than about anyone in my family (equal only to her brother)

Same reason I chose my niece. Her being born was one of the MOST significant things to happen in my life. I think she's as excited as me!

My niece is the same way LOL my FH's ex-wife is a horrible person who keeps trying to invite herself to the wedding and Savannah is ready to knock her out! No one messes with her Aunt Laura on a normal day, but mess with her on her wedding day oh H#LL NO lol

Same here 😂. I went through a pretty rough break up before meeting my FH. After a couple weeks she tells me to “knock it off because I’m acting stupid”.

My maid of honor is my best friend since high school! I picked her because she is someone who is important to both my FH and myself and I know I can depend on her! However, she's across the country until a few months before the wedding, so two of my bridesmaids, one of which recently got married and one of which is an avid perfectionist, are taking on some of the MoH tasks! I have a good team Smiley smile

My MOH and I have been best friends since 5th grade (27 years!) We drifted apart for a few years during college (went to different schools) and we only get to see each other a few times a year now, but she’ll always be my BFF. I was MOH in her wedding 13 years ago and she always knew she’d be mine if I ever met “the one”. That’s actually how I announced my engagement to her. I said “You know all those talks we’ve had about you being my MOH one day? Well, I hope you’re ready to put that into action!”

My MOH is my best friend since we were in kindergarten. I told her in 6th grade that if by some crazy happenstance a boy actually noticed me, liked me, dated me, and wanted to marry me that she would be my MOH 😂

My MOH is my best friend. We have been friends since middle school and have been through a lot together. Since I don't have any sisters of my own she's the closest thing to a sister I've had throughout my life. So of course she was my one and only option for my MOH!

My sister is my matron of honor and I asked my 4 yr old niece to be my maid of honor. I have an unbreakable bond with my niece and we have two younger nieces as our flower girls, so I wanted my older niece to feel important and included! I have ruffled a few feathers on my FH side by having a 4 yr old in the wedding party (they think it'll look off), she has simply been the cutest MOH ever and thinks the wedding is for her ! Smiley laugh

My Maid of Honor was a tough choice made easier. It was a decision between my two childhood best friends. I picked my best friend Brittany because we have been through a lot together. I was the first person she called after a family tragedy, and she was my first thought when it come to maid of honor. My other best friend was a close second but she is working on her PhD and might not be able to attend my wedding due to her studies. I am very happy with my decision and I can’t wait for the big day. Brittany lives thousands of miles away from me now, but i couldn’t imagine having anyone else beside me.

This will be my second wedding. I chose my sister for my first. She had since gotten married herself and is an army wife and they currently live in Hawaii so it wasn't practical to ask her this time. Instead, I have asked my best friend. We have known each other for more than 20 years and have been through it all. We've each been married and divorced, been there for the birth of each other's children, and we refer to each other as "my soulmate" because we are very similar. She's basically my second sister and I'm so glad to have her.

I have two maids of honor! My first MOH is my best friend since 9th grade. I moved 2,000 miles away when I was in 10th grade but we have stayed close friends despite this! My other MOH is what my church calls a "Koumbara" which is basically the god parent of the marriage. She is one of my best friends and because my first MOH isn't baptized in the church and the second one is, she is my Koumbara/Maid of Honor!

I have a maid of honor who will be officiating the wedding and a matron of honor who will be standing up with me. Both girls have been my best friend since 1995!

I knew even before he proposed that I would ask my best friend to be my MOH. We’ve been friends around 20 years now and she just knows me and we’ve seen each other through so much. FH surprised me that he was only going to ask two friends, one of which may not be able to make it since he’s living and working in South Korea. I had a much harder time deciding if I should ask someone to be a BM and who, but I finally decided to ask my cousin to be a co-MOH. We grew up living together, until I was 14 or 15, so she more like a sister. She was also excited and jumped immediately into wanting to help me plan as soon as she found out we were engaged, so I felt like she deserved the honor of standing up there with me.
I think it’s sweet that your niece will be your MOH!

That's great! my poor niece feels like she isn't doing enough. She's a new mom and I keep telling her she doesn't have to be at everything I go to if she doesn't have time. She was upset because she didn't take me to pick up my dress. I just picked it up, no fitting yet.
