Pirate Wedding & Decor

Pirate & 60s Bride, on April 9, 2018 at 5:03 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 32

We LOVED our pirate wedding reception (inspired by Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean ride & first film)! Share your tips and photos. Here are ours...

· COLORS. Black/red or stripes can be tricky. We chose golds, browns, oranges, natural linens and fish netting for natural look

· VENUE: A wine cave, winery, ship, tavern or beach is ideal

· DÉCOR: Mix a lot of authentic décor (wood tables, gold candelabras, wine barrels) with fewer cheap props (foam skulls, plastic gold coins), or it’ll look cheesy. Shop: Amazon, eBay, thrift stores, rental vendors

· APPAREL: We went “pirate hints” ceremony to “full pirate” reception. Theme was a surprise so we asked guests to dress Boho or California casual. Halloween costumes can look tacky; we shopped eBay, Amazon or pirate/medieval shops for our reception outfits

· MUSIC: Violinists and accordionists are awesomely different

Thank you! I've never been in a wine cave until we explored wedding venues (we chose Calistoga Ranch). There are several in Napa/Sonoma avail for events. Wine caves have such a cool vibe.

Thank you, all! We wanted a sacred ceremony so we wore traditional apparel (below). After we walked guests into the cave they were so distracted by decor, accordionist and drinks we easily sneaked out to change in our pirate gear!

Most decor was DIY. If anyone wants to make cheap rope and twine decor, and see our fav skeleton, see my post.

I ordered the bodysuit/skirt in 2016 so they still might be avail in gown shops. Smiley smile

Last pic, hubby's BF is an actor. Interrupted our welcome speech as...Capt'n Jack. Guests went nuts. Stayed in character all night. (Hubby built parrot perch. Animated talking parrot from eBay).

Very beautiful!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR THEME! I’m doing a Disney theme and each of my tables will be decorated as a different Disney movie. I will have a Pirates of the Caribbean themed table as well. Since I’m just doing a table found these 2 items I thought would be nice and maybe just sprinkle some gold coins along with it.

LOVE the Black Pearl ship! Smiley heart (and Disney table ideas) Octopus is really cool but not sure you need it? Gold coins, yes. Colored gems can look fake IMHO. What about pillar candle or 2 tealights in rustic votives so light flickers off the ship? Flickering flameless work great too. Can't wait to see your pics!

I was thinking of the Krakken that is why I got the octopus 🐙. It’s not necessary. Thanks I’ll use your suggestion also with the pillar candle and tea lights. Again love love your wedding pictures

I totally get it. But each piece of decor keeps adding up Smiley sad and I think that ship is freakin' awesome. Smiley smile You can always add it later if you have budget left.
