We LOVED our pirate wedding reception (inspired by Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean ride & first film)! Share your tips and photos. Here are ours...

· COLORS. Black/red or stripes can be tricky. We chose golds, browns, oranges, natural linens and fish netting for natural look

· VENUE: A wine cave, winery, ship, tavern or beach is ideal

· DÉCOR: Mix a lot of authentic décor (wood tables, gold candelabras, wine barrels) with fewer cheap props (foam skulls, plastic gold coins), or it’ll look cheesy. Shop: Amazon, eBay, thrift stores, rental vendors

· APPAREL: We went “pirate hints” ceremony to “full pirate” reception. Theme was a surprise so we asked guests to dress Boho or California casual. Halloween costumes can look tacky; we shopped eBay, Amazon or pirate/medieval shops for our reception outfits

· MUSIC: Violinists and accordionists are awesomely different

That is true! ill have to do all my centerpieces first then like you said if it’s worth adding or not. But at least after the wedding I could put it in my bathroom. My shower curtain is a giant octopus attacking a pirate ship

Totally! Just want to warn you small $2-$10 costs creep up. Thought we's spend $500 on prop decor/supplies...we spent $1200! Smiley surprise Hubby's DIY projects (chest, mast, fireflies, swamp, parrot perch) and our alcove decor added up.

Lol your shower curtain! Love it. It's great if you can repurpose your wedding decor. Our dining room is now piratey. Someday, I want a pirate bar or wine cellar. Smiley tongue

(I already replied in your original post about your pirate wedding so we can keep the chat there for everyone to give you ideas). Breathe. Smiley winking To figure out your budget, talk with your fiance(e) how much you'll save between now and the wedding. My hubby & I opened a checking account and each put money in every month. That was our initial budget.

    Yay. 50 people is manageable.

If you can share pics of those two venues options? An outdoor space without coverage makes me nervous due to weather. If you need a tent for heat/rain those can be pricey! Decor blows around in wind. And if your grandmother has only 1-2 bathrooms that may not be enough for guests, so there's that rental cost too. Unless the wedding is in her backyard and then y'all go to the lodge for the reception? That may be an option.

(You're doing great, by the way. Guest list estimate, two venue options already. Smiley smile )

We did!!! Thank you. Smiley laugh Some stuff didn't exactly turn out the way we hoped because it was too "deconstructed" for guests to say "That's from the ride!" but it did look very cool piratey! For example:

Amazing!! The chandeliers are crazy, what a cool idea to get married in a wine cave! Can I hire you to come to my house and decorate it like the Haunted Mansion? Smiley smile That is my other favorite ride. lol

Tee hee, thanks Stacey! I've never been in a wine cave before scouting out venues. Some have a cool "earthy" smell to them...a guest said that was just like the ride and how did we get that smell in there? Ha ha ha.

Lol. That's my hubby's fav ride at DL and one of our theme choices (before we met he already had the gargoyle candles, painting, headstone coasters and other stuff from the Haunted Mansion collection. After we got married we got the HM placemats). But for me, it was a little too dark/scary for a wedding (and my mom).

Are you going to have a Haunted Mansion wedding reception? I can't click on your profile to see if you've selected your venue yet. A historic or estate house would be perfect for that!

For your house, deck out your dining room in HM stuff!!!
