Photographer lost the photos.

KaylaP, on October 6, 2014 at 7:23 AM Posted in Planning 0 68

What would you all do if your photographer LOST all of your wedding photos?

It didn't happen to us, but did to our good friend that we were in the wedding. They chose a $1200 package from a reputable photographer in our area. They ended up spending close to $4000 with her (I have no idea how) and when they scheduled an appt to view and order she told them that she couldn't find their pics. Supposedly if she hasn't found them by today she is refunding there money. But what would you do if you were in her (the bride's) shoes?

Cry. A lot. Get my money back and search for pictures guests took. That's so sad and scary!

I'd be devastated....other than that I'm not sure what I would. Other than cry a lot and leave awful reviews on any website I could find, I'm not sure what else I would be able to do, especially if receiving a full refund.

Cry and then cry some more. I would get all dressed up again and take more photos. No it wouldn't be the same but I would still want pictures.

I suggested to her to get dressed up again and take more photos, but his tux was rented, family is from out of town, bridal party lives out of town. They do have a couple sneaks but only 3. Smiley sad I can't imagine what I'd feel like if I were in her shoes!

A friend of mine had hired the same photographer that we have. She decided to add videography onto her package. 2 months after her wedding, she found out that they hadn't either forgotten that she had added it on or something happened with the SD card they were using. I LOVE our photographer and have only had a great experience with her, she has all kinds of awards from all over, but I am terrified of something happening! I won't be hiring her for our video if we happen to add that in, that's for sure!

I'd probably get pretty violent with the photographer... seriously... refunding the money does not come close to replacing pictures that cannot be taken again.

I would cry my eyes out. We would all get dressed again and have another session. With a different photographer of course, and after I got all my money back and filed a complaint!

I would lose it! I know that our photographers are saving 3 back up versions as soon as they get back to the hotel after our wedding. They're coming 1500 miles to shoot our wedding so they are planning on having as many copies as possible for when they travel back to Canada to edit them.

I don't honestly get how someone can lose photos, especially if they have a second shooter. Many of the photographers I see download right at the wedding and have a laptop set up so guests can view the photos. Seems like a good safeguard....

This happened to a friend of mine and even though they've been married for some time now, you can tell she's still pretty upset about it. They ended up getting all dressed up and getting photos redone, but her husband's daughter had to be in school so she has no pictures with her step daughter.

I have to admit, as bad as my photographer/videographer team was, bad pictures are still better than no pictures.

    I'd freak. Seriously.

Celia- It's a business with a mother and daughter. The mother takes a few photos during the ceremony, but the daughter takes most. They live 15-30 minutes from the ceremony reception. She obviously downloaded them to the computer the next day because she posted 3 sneaks. But I don't know the details after that.

Personally I would be ticked if my photographer showed my guests pictures AT the wedding like you mentioned. I don't even want my mother getting the disc of our photos before DH and I. That just doesn't seem right in my book though.

As for what I would do- I'd demand a full refund and bad reviews and all that. I probably wouldn't do retakes, but I'd demand my money back and hope that my guests got more photos than what appears that mine did

I would be completely devastated. Your poor friend. I don't know what I would do, we're having a DW, so we couldn't redo them.

If she thinks she lost them, she needs to go to a computer recovery service to find them (if they were downloaded...)

I'm not crazy about the photos at the reception thing either, but I think they're making that an option that couples can choose, not a given.

I will impose bodily harm probably. My bridesmaid was a second shooter at a wedding where the main shooter admitted to her that he lost a prior couple's wedding photos. She told him that even if he accidently deletes the photos, most software systems have a backup file. He was able to take his computer to a local computer shop, where the photos were found.

I would have your friend try that. The photos are mostly likely misplaced, not deleted. If they are somehow deleted, call Judge Judy.

I'd freak the hell out. You can't really "refund" that no matter what. I know for us it would be completely devastating. Our guests didn't take many photos because once the reception got started we seriously were dancing our asses off and barely have any pictures of our wedding.

Good ideas!! I'll suggest that to her after she talks to the photographer! Hopefully they can be recovered!
