Photographer lost the photos.

What would you all do if your photographer LOST all of your wedding photos? It didn't happen to us, but did to our good friend that we were in the wedding. What would you all do if your photographer LOST all of your wedding photos?

It didn't happen to us, but did to our good friend that we were in the wedding. They chose a $1200 package from a reputable photographer in our area. They ended up spending close to $4000 with her (I have no idea how) and when they scheduled an appt to view and order she told them that she couldn't find their pics. Supposedly if she hasn't found them by today she is refunding there money. But what would you do if you were in her (the bride's) shoes?

There was a bride on here who's photographer's camera was stolen from his car before he transferred her photos. . .

In any case, this was another consideration for us when we decided to book a videographer-- if something happened to the photos, we could always pull stills from the video. Most vendors put in their contract that they won't pay any damages beyond the actual value of the package (so, you couldn't really sue for "pain and suffering"), so there wouldn't be much you could do besides get a refund, and really, how helpful is that in this situation!?!? Smiley sad

I don't think there's much you CAN do other than ask for a full refund.

That being said how were they lost? Were they on a memory card that was corrupted? Or did the computer get corrupted? There are always ways to fix most of these problems and get back the data.

Janeen- I have no idea. All I know is what she told me. I asked when her view and order was, thought it was a few days before I asked and she said, "Kelli lost our pictures." Then that she said that a refund was requested and the photographer said she wanted to keep looking for them thru the beginning of this week and if they weren't recovered, she would issue a refund.

We had a friend that shadowed the photographer with our camera.

We have a rebel canon camera, it's awesome, a lot of the photos my friend took are better than the photographers.

I OP's friends case, I would be mad, sad, than ask everyone (wedding party/family) to get dressed up again and redo some standard shots. I would also let the guests know (that were at the wedding), that any photos they took, I would love a copy.

Honestly this doesn't make any sense. There were a couple of sneak peaks, implying they're on the computer itself. And what she told you almost implies that she can't find them, versus some kind of accident that corrupted a computer. ???

I think what she meant was that the photos were "lost" off of the computer. I don't understand why they can't be redownloaded, unless the photographer reused the memory card. All I know is my friends photos seem to have been deleted from all of the photographers technology. There were 3 or 4 sneaks posted. That's all they have.

Sue their ass off to cover a whole new wedding to "redo" as much of the day as possible.

I suppose it would matter how they were lost. If someone stole the photographer's equipment, well I would be sad, but what can you do? If they had a computer virus or similar problem, I wouldn't be satisfied with a refund until have they tried to have a computer recovery. If they deleted them off the computer, same idea as before, they'd better do everything they can before refunding. If after all that they still sit have my pictures? Cry for a bit then email/call every person at the wedding and hope/pray.

Della, nothing was stolen. I know they won't do a redo, but I'm going to suggest a recovery to the bride. As far as I know it was JUST their photos that "disappeared" It just seems fishy.

I'd definitely have a good cry, then I'd immediately start reaching out to all the guests, inform them of what happened, and ask them to share their own photos with you by sending them via email, DropBox, thumb drive, whatever. And then I'd tell the photog I wanted them to rent the tux for the husband again, pay for her hair to be done, and that they were going to do a bridal shoot with the two of them, like an engagement shoot, so they have formal portraits of the couple. At no charge, of course...

That's awful and I'd feel horrible especially what I'm paying. I'd expect and ask for a refund for most of my money. (They performed a service, so imo, they deserve some compensation. I know I'm in the minority. ) I hope things work out for the better for them!

Why submit bad reviews of the photographer or sue? If they say they will refund and doing their best to rectify the situation, why stir the pot? What are you going to sue for if you've been offered a refund??? Technically photos belong to the photographer anyway.

I'd definately submit bad reviews. A wedding can't be replayed. Even if you retake pictures, it can't be replayed. To put myself in her shoes. If my money got refunded, I'd still leave a bad review. No amount of money can compensate those lost memories. It also depends on the photographer WHO the photos belong to. In my case, they belong to me. I get the copyright.

How does that happen!? I would be devastated, and then start asking everyone that was at the wedding for any pictures they may have taken. Oh my dear Lord, I feel so terribly awful for her!

@Kayla P. What would the review say?? You can't say anything "bad" other than, "Unfortunately, my photos were "lost". And they tried their best to recover them and I did receive my money back, and I'm really disappointed and upset etc.." Anything else would be a lie. If they performed at a satisfactory level up until this incident. Unless they did something purposely, but wouldn't make any sense if they are offering a full refund, they aren't gaining anything. As a bride, I wouldn't be put off if I seen a "bad review" like that. Understanding that accidents do happen and the bride is understandably upset and frustrated.

I would be very seriously upset. Those are completely irreplaceable. I don't know if I would be satisfied with just getting my money back. Is it possible to sue over that? It would just be...devastating.

Re how they disappeared: Maybe the photographer downloaded them off the memory card, reused the memory card, then got a computer virus or something that crashed their computer. Seems plausible.

I really hope their photos are found / recovered! If not, I'd put into writing that I want a 100% refund, rental of tux, hair/makeup for the bride, a wedding shoot with the bride and groom at no charge as well as $500 in credit towards photo prints. If they refuse to do all of that I would post negative reviews on them everywhere I possibly could.
