Kirst, on September 13, 2012 at 11:30 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 27

What company is the best to create & print photobooks from?

I've had family use i think snapfish in the past & the quality of the photos was HORRIBLE when printed! So i'm going to stay away from them, but any other awesome quality places I should look into? thanks

Shutterfly for sure. I made a 12x12 album for our wedding and I've made a few 8x8. I can show you my wedding album if you like. I used the custom path.

I looove the photobooks I got from shutterfly..I've only ever gotten the 8 x 8 free ones that are hard cover. I was really impressed with them. However I can't vouch for the paperback ones yet..Cydney posted before a picture of her photobooks she got from there:

I use shutterfly all the time and have made a lot of photobooks from them. I just ordered a book with all my shower pics. And I had a offer for a free book and only paid shipping! And I have one with my e-pics to use as my guest book at the wedding.

I got it at half off with free shipping using a couple of codes back in march. Always check retailmenot.com for any coupons (for anywhere inline or in store actually)

I used Walgreens. they always have a discount on their books.

I did Brag Books as a favor.

Great question, Kirst! We should (hopefully) have our pictures by this weekend so I will be ordering a book as well.

For my sister's wedding, we used blurb.com. It was recommended to us by her photographer, and the books came out fantastic. My parents made their albums from there, as well as their guestbook.

Figured I'd throw another option out there :-) (Although I've definitely seen some from Shutterfly as well that were nice!)

This is one I made for my future niece.

I used to work at Walgreens running the photo lab (their books are NOT as good as Shutterfly) and my step mom made one from there of our pics. She and I both love shutterfly SOO much better. She regrets making the Walgreens one lol.

I used blurb too. Quality wise, they are almost the same (Shutterfly is a little bit better) but the prices are much better at Shutterfly due to their coupons and specials.

I will also add that looking at my own wedding album on here, it does look blurry but in the actual book, it's not at all.

I've heard that my publisher is the best. They even have leather covers and make them like the professional ones from your photographer. I just got a groupon through them so I'll make a post once I get my book!!

The main difference between the inexpensive photobooks and professional ones is mainly that no one edits the photos and optimizes them for printing. So, if you're looking for a high quality one, your best option is to order through your photographer. Those photos will be re-touched by the photographer as well as the printing company so that your pictures look perfect.

However, I also made Costco photobooks of my own wedding, engagement, and vacations to keep on my table. They're about $30 each, the quality is pretty good, and - most importantly - I don't care when all our guests come over and touch all the pages Smiley smile

I got all the retouched photos from my photographer and I'm sorry but I don't have a few hundred bucks to spend on an album.

I heard that about my publisher too but when my BIL got married, that's what they used and I honestly don't see the difference in quality

I use snapfish and have for a very long time. I've always been very pleased with their products and the simplicity of their program for designing the books.

I used Shutterfly for my engagement photos and it came out great! I plan on doing a large one for my wedding photos! I actually prefer it to those expensive ones from photographers. Smiley smile

I used shutterfly for our HM album and I love it! The paper quality was better than I thought and actually the photo quality was pretty great - at least the photos that were taken at high resolution. Overall it's better than I expected.

I started designing our wedding album in shutterfly. I'm not worried about the photo resolution unless it's a zoomed detail. Our photographer gave us two versions of all our photos - web resolution and print resolution, so as long as I've used the print resolution and it's not too far zoomed it should be okay.

My only hesitation with shutterfly is that I'd really like a flushmount album, where the pages lie flat. That way I could do a full page spread without having the binding crack go down the middle of our faces. Smiley smile But, the shutterfly album is around $100 for 105 pages, and flushmount albums are several hundreds of dollars. We might start out with the shutterfly album and if the binding bugs me, I can always upgrade it later.

Mypublisher offers lay flat pages. Like Shutterfly they almost always have a code floating around somewhere. Main reason I prefer them to shutterfly.

Picaboo and shutterfly have the best photobooks. We decided to do that when we got married to buy the rights to our photos so we can create a photobook. It fits our style better than the traditional wedding books. I do suggest if you get a photographer, see if they have options to buy rights to your photos.
