Our venue only allows beer or wine :(

Lena, on April 17, 2013 at 12:27 PM Posted in Planning 0 34

I HATE beer with a passion, I've never had wine, I'm more of a mixed drink person but our venue said they aren't licensed for anything else, so I'm wondering maybe what kind of mixed drinks you could make with wine? Any other ladies going through this? What did you do to cope with it? I'm starting to feel overwhelmed again.. Blah

Hey, it's one day, how about sangria? It is very tasty, I still haven't met a pitcher I didn't like... I mean glass

I was going to suggest sangria as well. Do they allow champagne? You could make some champagne mixes as well with fresh fruit and juices.

We are only doing beer/wine and I don't like either as well. But I don't see myself drinking too much at my wedding anyway. Bring a flask?? haha Smiley winking

Yeah sangria of course. What about hard ciders and things like twisted tea or mikes hard lemonade? There are a bunch of bottle beverages like that and should fall into the same category as beer. Maybe ask your venue about including something like that?

We're only having beer, wine & champagne as well. I really don't like beer, but certain wines are pretty yummy (Moscato is my fav - it's bubbly and kinda sweet because it's a dessert wine). I would suggest Sangria too, you can find lots of recipes online (some of which have brandy in them, so be careful).

Edit - bottled drinks made me think of wine coolers... those should be allowed.

Sangria! There's all different kinds too. You'll be missing the brandy or rum out of it, but it'll still taste good. The flavor changes depending on the wine, fruit, and juice so you can do all kinds of variations.

@Trena you said my exact thoughts, my next question was going to be garter with flask holder? Lol I'm planning on having a tea length dress anyways, jus to 'spice' my drinks up.

But I'm not sure about champaign ill have to ask, my venue is a winery so that has a lot to do with it is say

You could make wine spritzers too, but Sangria is the best!

I'm going to jump on the Sangria wagon here as well... YUM.

I really like most beers, and I'm not sure I've met a wine that I haven't liked yet BUT, there are tons of people who hate both of those things. I'm sure you guys will find a solution!

We go to this movie theater that serves food and alcohol but they only serve beer, wine and champagne. BUT -- you can get a really good margarita made with champagne rather than tequila -- maybe that could be an option?

I was going to suggest sangria like all the ladies above. You can also make beer margaritas(most of the time you can't even taste the beer) you still have time to figure things out!

Everyone else has already given you some awesome tips, so I want to ask something else: didn't you just have an issue last week with finding out all of a sudden that you needed to rent restrooms? And now they're springing this on you? All of these concerns should've been addressed before a contract was ever signed, but it's not too late to call and suggest a meeting with the venue. More "surprises" are only going to make the stress worse!

    Here we go.
Sangria ( I prefer red to white)
    white wine & sprite
    white wine and gingerale
    champagne and OJ

also read this online "If you mix it with coke it takes like cherry coke. Its really strange - never thought it would work. Had a really disgusting bottle of red wine and mixed it with coca cola (not diet as it does taste different) and its lovely!!" have never tried it. might want to before offering it to others

I mixed all my white wine with soda water at my wedding to not get too drunk

Bahahaha @WasSoon2BMrsSmith -- When I was in Spain we used to mix the cheapo one euro sangria with Coke. Definitely not the worst thing I've ever drank!

@ Amanda G I havent signed the contract yet, it just seems everytime i ask a question they send me more bad news, but i REALLY love this place and the location and the price is right in my budget, I am setting up a meeting so me and FH can go look at it together when he gets home next month. The port o potty isnt really that big of an issue anymore as im sure i will be able to get a flushing one. And most of my guest will enjoy beer, I just know some of my family isnt going to be big on wine so im trying to come up wit alternatives, But if i had already signed my contract and they did this to me i would be LIVID, so thanks for the concern =)

These ladies have gave me some GREAT ideas that im going to look into!!
