Our venue only allows beer or wine :(

I HATE beer with a passion, I've never had wine, I'm more of a mixed drink person but our venue said they aren't licensed for anything else, so I'm wondering maybe what kind of mixed drinks you could make with wine? Any other ladies going through this? What did you do to cope with it? I'm starting...

We can only have beer and wine as well. At first I was bummed. Not anymore. Not having liquor saves sooooooo much money.

Look into lambics. Technically they are a Belgian fruit beer, but they don't taste like beer at all. I don't like wine or beer, but I really like lambics. Peach & raspberry are my favorites.

@Lena, okay thank goodness! Try and brainstorm LOTS of questions to ask during your meeting. Even if you think it's silly or obvious, ask!

Here's some off the top of my head:

-(If outdoors) Is there a back up plan in case of rain?

-How many people can you accommodate including dance floor, gift/cake/DJ table, etc?

-Will there be any other events on my wedding day?

-Can we set up the day before?

-What time do we have access the day of?

-What does the site fee include? What's NOT included?

-Is there a bridal suite or other place for me to get ready/wait?

-Can we bring our own booze/food/sound equipment/rentals?

-Are candles/open flames allowed? Any decor restrictions?

-Is rice-throwing allowed? What about flower petals?

-Is there a day of coordinator?

-Who will cut the cake? Is there a fee?

These are all things I asked my venue, and some of the answers were surprising - in good ways and not-so-good ways! ($400 cake cutting fee = we're having a cupcake tower.)

I've been to a wedding where this alcohol restriction was the case because it was held at winery. Everyone seemed to have fun, so just wine and beer won't have people complaining. People will have a good time when any alcohol is involved Smiley smile

@Williams, I wish i had it booked, but we are from a small town and this winery is usually pretty slow buisness wise so im not scarred of losing my date, i will wait utill May so me and FH can go look at it together and make the decision!

I prefer mixed drinks as well, but there are sweeter wines that I like.

If you're wearing a BIG dress, keep in mind that having to pee is a real PITA so maybe it's too your advantage if you don't drink a lot. I only had 2 drinks at my first wedding for this reason.

OMG SANGRIA!! Why didn't I think of that! And mine is beer and wine only too and i don't mind it one bit. Actually I kind of prefer it. Cheaper and i don't have to worry as much about people getting wasted out of their mind. I'm doing a few different kinds of beer and wine and twisted tea and mikes hard. Although now i'm thinking sangria and thats got me interested.

I'm going to mention mikes hard to them, and ask for a wine list so ik what's available. But I'm pretty sure they told me no BYOB so I guess they will have to see if mikes hard is available

I agree with the many other people who have mentioned sangria. You could do a red and a white. The white ones seem to have a bit more variety (I think I've had peach, blood orange, and at least one other type), but both are really tasty.

Edit: Someone mentioned lambics above (Lirana?) and those are another great alternative.

You'd love some of our sweet reds here in NY! YummY! Bramble Berry is sooo good! Sangria is a great option. Or even fruit wine spritzers.

Frambua? I dont know how to spell it... its a beer but really taste like sweet wine. I hate beer and I can drink it.

Check in to seeing if they can special order some wines for your event if you dont like the list they offer.
