Other ideas rather than a photo booth at a wedding…

Maci, on August 6, 2015 at 8:51 AM Posted in Planning 0 20

Looking for something to do at our wedding other than a Photo Booth that everyone is doing around my town. I just want something different. Any ideas!? let me know

You can just... not have a photobooth. If you're really that torn up about it, include a sign that says, "Sorry, not a photobooth."

If you are looking for a cheap option of a photo booth, I have seen "selfie stations" where you make a cute backdrop for people to take selfies and post it to social media with your hashtag. Are you looking for other favor ideas?

I'm pretty sure people entertained themselves by eating, drinking and dancing before photo booths became trendy. They are not a necessity. However, one of my friends made a giant cardboard cutout that looked like an Instagram frame with the message "congrats mr and mrs so and so." People passed it around and took pictures with it. As for other entertainment, I've also seen people hire performers for the reception, and you can look into local schools or something to find a more affordable option. My friend just asked a group of teenage subway performers to come do a breakdancing thing at her reception. The guests enjoyed it.

I was looking at other ideas since a photobooth wasn't in our budget. I almost went with a caricature artist but would only suggest that for a smaller wedding (unless you hire like, 3-5 of them). But the guests hand drawn photo could also be used as their favor, so it may even out!

My wedding is at a local park, and is fairly casual. We are planning on having some games if people want to play them while there - I saw a bride that made a giant jenga set and I want to do that, along with a few other lawn type things to do in addition to standards like the DJ with dancing etc.

I know there are people who will say "everyone can make conversation and I don't want to be forced to play games," but I am in no way making people play them. If they want to and think it would be fun, they're there! If not, I now have giant jenga for my parties at home after the wedding. Smiley smile

We're having lawn games for the adults and are looking into a bounce house for the kids. Don't judge, bounce houses are awesome.

Instead of a photo booth how about you have a video message recordings booth?

@Ashley - haha my FH asked for a bounce house. I feel bad for shutting it down but with only like, four kids, and the fact that I know I can't use it since i'll be in my gown, I said he'd have to wait for a birthday party.

Mary, ypu should totally surprise him and have it anyway. That would be the best groom's gift ever!

I like lawn games at outdoor weddings. However, sometimes I think brides try to hard to entertain guests at a social event where they already are entertained by food, drinking, and dancing. I went to a wedding once with a volleyball net . That was a little over the top for me.

We have a photobooth but FH also really wanted to do a glow stick bar. We're huge kid people and will have around 30 kids there, so it should be a huge hit. Will make for some interesting dancing pictures too. FH has also decided to set up a cigar bar on the patio.

Like JaKLyn said a cigar bar could be good or a s'mores bar. I understand the desire to have something for those who take a break from dancing and don't want to sit at their tables. But if it's not in the budget people are not gonna miss it.

We did a "photo booth" at our engagement party in place of doing it at the wedding. I found an inexpensive backdrop (I'm talking $5- cheap), some random props, and used my tripod to place an easy-to-use point and shoot camera on. It saved us a ton of money doing it this way versus at the wedding. Plus, everyone loved it. It was a huge hit with our guests!

They have these mini printer things at Michaels craft store that you can't send pictures from your phone too and it will print them, its like $250 we are doing that instead of the $700 photo booth

I like those instant cameras that print out the picture (Like polaroids). The might up ending costing you quite a bit though, since the films are pretty expensive.
