Officiant Needed for Halloween Wedding!

Colette, on July 8, 2015 at 1:41 PM Posted in Planning 0 25

My husband and I are renewing our vows this coming fall on Halloween. Our wedding last year was ruined by the in laws so we had a small intimate ceremony instead of the large wedding we dreamed of. Now we are having what we want without the in laws invited!

We are looking for someone who will dress up, play the part, and be out side the box right along with us. Any suggestions would be helpful! Our wedding is already booked and paid in full at Westminster on Halloween (10/31/2015). Our guests are dressing up, the caterer/staff are dressing up and the entire ceremony and reception is pretty much a massive Halloween party with an undertone of A Nightmare Before Christmas. We would love to find an officiant that can help us have a creative ceremony as well.

Since it sounds like you're already married... just ask a friend. Or if you're set on having an actual officiant do your wedding, check the vendor tab in your area.

How did your inlaws mess up the wedding?

I have an honest question. Are you willing to pay for the officiant's costume? Good costumes are expensive.

The in-laws requested we wait at least two years and have a long engagement. Which we didn't honor that request. When we invited them to the small ceremony we decided on, they wouldn't commit to coming. Instead, they showed up late, stopped the ceremony and pulled my husband aside and tried to talk him out of marry me. His mother cried during the ceremony and openly begged her husband to "do something" and he loudly assured her he had thirty days to contest the wedding. I worked for his step-father in a law firm and he reminded me over the next thirty days that at any time he could contest the wedding. That is for starters, it only became progressively worse as the months rolled on. We haven't talked to them in almost a year and have no plans to in the near future.

Yeah that counts as your in-laws ruining your wedding. WOW

So wait... are you officially married? If so you don't need an officiant. Get some homeless guy to do it and you'll be fine!

I am so sorry they did this to you. IMO you should certainly have another wedding - sheesh! if it's any consolation, I'm sure all that were there didn't hold it against you.

Since there's nothing legal to worry about, sounds like you can have pretty much anyone do it-

since you'd like someone to dress up and be in character, have you considered some theater groups in your area? either way, sounds like it's going to be one cool night! can't wait to see pictures and all Smiley smile

Have your most theatric friend do it, since its actually a vow renewal, not a wedding.

What @Elizabeth said - if you guys are already officially married, then a friend conducting the wedding won't make a difference.

I love the idea of a theater group or a friend that is theatrical. Thank you so much! Such a great idea!

I don't like vow renewals this early in a marriage.....but I'd say this makes for one big exception!! Sounds like it will be phenomenal!!

You know....you don't have to have an actual Officiant?
