Totally agree about the name change kits. I mean, if they waited for an hour at the RMV for me, then I would happily pay them 20 dollars, however the forms are pretty much the easiest part (and heck I only actually needed them for a few things so far).

That's a relief! How did you do the ss change? Did you have to go in person and then they mailed it to you or you submitted everything online?

Diana, you can do SS through the mail but I would recommend going in person so you don't have to send away any of your documents.

It is really rather quick. Just complete and bring this form http://www.socialsecurity.gov/online/ss-5.pdf along with your marriage certificate, ID, and old social security card. They say it can take 10 days to get your new card in the mail however I got mine in less than a week.

Go in person & then they mail to you. I printed the form online so i had it prefilled out, and all i had to show was my marriage certif & DL

On another topic, how long did it take for your marriage certificate to come back? I know it's silly but my wedding is dec 1 and I want to change my name before the end of the year... I know the holidays will probably create delays though

I found the process to be super easy too!! I didn't even have to fill out a form for my SS change - I just went to the office showed my marriage cert & DL and the guy did it all on the computer - Got my new card in the mail like 5 days later!! I did my DL, bank account & other stuff the same day too, I didn't have to wait for the SS card to come in!!!!

Diana, I'm not sure. Where we got married in Maryland, our license automatically becomes our original certificate once it is filled out by our officiant, so we had absolutely no waiting time (not that it mattered since I procrastinated so much anyway). If you make a post asking other Florida brides, someone might be able to help let you know the general turn around time.

Apparently i need my SS card for DL...but i got mine in the mail like 5 days after visiting the office, def was quick! I would do it during lunch but Im afraid of the wait time lol. Ill go during the weekend so I can also get a better pic taken haha

I think it's totally odd having a new last name, i thought i'd be sad, maybe it hasn't hit me yet!! To be honest I still don't think of him as my HUSBAND yet...it feels the same right now, once we're in our new home and its just us instead of a home full of people painting and working every night then maybe it'll start to sink it. cause right now it's really not just US its everyone HAHA

We got ours back (Marriage lic) shortly after returning from honeymoon so i'd say about a week and a half it took! maybe slightly less

I'm still in the process of changing mine.. I didn't get my "official" license yet, but I'm going to attempt to use the signed copy the officiant gave us. (Do you think they will accept it?)

My name has already changed at work, I just need my new SS card and DL to change my name on my pay stubs and benefits.

I'm going down to the SS office tomorrow and DMV. Once I get those docs back, I will change my name on my passport!!

As a fellow PA bride, I have to agree Kirst. It was easy. Sadly, we had to go into Center City's SS office, so DH just drove around CC until I was finished. With the info sheet they gave me at SS office, I was able to go right to PENNDOT and get my new license on the spot

It's all of the other stuff that is a pain in the rear.

However, I would never pay anyone unless they were going to wait in line for me.

I couldn't believe they took my license. I just did this a month ago(been a wee bit busy) and my license from VT was acceptable. I thought I might have needed another more recent certified copy.

I am so lazy I didn't even begin the process but I hope to get it done this week! Yeah Krist! congrats

It hasn't hit me yet either ... And people must think I am such an idiot b/c I will go somewhere and they will ask me for my name and I will say my old last name and then be like oh no wait that isn't my last name anymore LOL ... I guess it takes some getting used to!!

Oh and I was so mad when I did my DL b/c I had just gotten a new picture taken like a month ago and that picture came out great - But when I went for the name change they MADE me take another new pic which I totally wasn't prepared for (Like no makeup & hair in a side pony lol) ... I am just waiting to see what kind of hot mess my new DL is going to be!!
