I got my new SS card in the mail on monday, so this weekend the change to the DL will take place & on my bank account. so far i have changed all my other records, phone bill, CCs etc It's not a horrible process to be honest & it seems like there is no need for the name change websites or kits

Congrats and i agree. it was a pretty painless process.

I still get chills when someone calls me Mrs. Willson. I went to the bank the other day to make a withdrawl and before i walked away, she said, "Have a nice day, ms. Willson" And I walked out of the bank with the biggiest grin on my face.

Here in Alberta, Canada once you get your official marriage certificate you can then go to the registry and get a new DL and from there you can go and change your name everywhere. The problem is that we are having a new home built. It was originally going to be done end of Sept. Now the date is sometime in October. I was waiting until we got our move in date, then I was going to change my name and new address. But now with the delay, I might have to wait or shell out $80 twice (new name and new address) for a DL. Stupid home builders Smiley sad

@ Tiffany M. You don't have to pay for an address change on your DL - you can actually submit the change online and they will mail you the sticker to put on the back of the DL. Is super easy

I haven't started the name change process yet...I just received my cert on Tuesday and I'm kinda feeling strange about changing my name now! It just doesn't feel like "me" yet lol guess I'll get used to it...I've always wanted us to be official and having the same last name was very important to me...I'm just not quite ready yet...maybe next week!!

@ Shelly W. Maybe that is how it works in BC, but here in Alberta if you change anything on your license (name, address, etc) you have to pay the fee and get a new license. I wish we did it like BC.

I'm still waiting for my certificate, hopefully it'll be here soon.

    Hi Diana,

I seen you were married in Florida as well. I was curious of how long it took you to receive your marriage cert in the mail ? Im ready to get this name change ball rolling as well. Thanks!!

Thanks for posting about this. I’ve been seeing the name change kits and thought they were a little superfluous but I was wondering how the process went. I’m looking forward to changing my name, but since it’s something I’ve never done before I’m trying to figure out how to do it.
