Anyone have them or know anything about them? i googled some, but everything said the cause is for the most part unknown and that there isn't really a cure. i did read something that said that they are thought to be caused by a hormonal change. and that HAS to be the case for me..

i got them every once and a while when i was younger, but i've really noticed them in the past few months. and its always right after my period. they hurt SO bad and they always pop up right on the inside of my lips so food hits it every time i chew. they also show up right near the corner of my mouth (on the inside of course) so, once again, when i'm chewing food its constantly irritated. i did get "magic mouthwash" (which is a prescription) from a doctor when i was younger, but it hasn't been helping AT ALL. they are getting worse (i just got 2 in one day.. the last day of my period was sunday) and they are so sore, and getting bigger Smiley sad

does anyone have any tips or advice on how to treat them?! Smiley sad

FH seconds jlam with the Kanka gel. It covers and protects it and numbs the area.

Dang KK I didn't know you could get both! Someone told me if you get canker you can't get cold etc... Poor thing! Sounds like you just need a shot of Jack or something something potent haha

Danielle, I saw the Kanka gels at the store the other day when FS had his first canker sore (oh what a drama queen he was! lol). And I wondered if they work. I got him the liquid form Kanka.

Maybe a Mrs- Cold Sores are a form of herpes, not canker sores..cold sores are on the outside of your mouth, canker sores are on the inside of your mouth, and are cause my stress, allergies, trauma to that area of your mouth(like if you bite your cheek or something) or a reaction from some bacteria.

I for one have never had a cold sore, most people who get them, it runs in the family, or they're herps..lol.

Though, I do get canker sores...a lot..lol. Whenever I get them I swish my mouth with salt water, and the next day they're gone..Maybe that'll help..it's always helped me.

Future Mrs- as far as cold sores, its not JUST that it runs in the family or "they're herps" they are a STRAIN of the herpes virus, but have nothing to do with genital herpes.

and yeah, tee, i'm just diseased! Smiley sad lol just kiddinggg. i luckily never get them at the same time, and i only get a cold sore about once a year. that's how my canker sores used to be.. now its like i have leprosy in my mouth! lol

I get them all the freaking time. Have for a while. It is an acidic thing with mine..I usually use Kank-aid which stings like hell and makes my eyes well up everytime that is a topical anesthetic and will numb the area for a while. For me..with the big painful ones it doesn't work for very long. Otherwise (my g n g always swore by this) but a Titralac on the canker sore. It is an antacid that is sold at Walgreens or Walmart in a white bottle with blue and yellow writing on it. It is supposed to draw acid out of the canker sore..it's worked for me a few times..or made the bigger ones smaller and less painful. Otherwise just stay away from orange juice and any other food or drink that may be highly acidic and just pray to god it goes away. This is really really gross but my uncle and brother both bite theirs until they bleed and they go away soon thereafter. Good luck! I know it sucks :-(

@KK- i know they're not actually herpes..I was mainly trying to point out that canker sores are not affiliated with the herpes virus.

Nicci- someone once told me that once it "bursts" it'll get better! I never had any idea what they were talking about because my don't burst. Maybe that's what they were talking about.. Biting it until it bleeds.. Definitely wont be trying that :/

I get them all the time. I noticed mine are due to stress. And I use numbing stuff for the pain and swish my mouth with salt water.

I BET I HAVE A CURE FOR YOU!!!!! I used to get them all the time, and dang did they hurt. My dentist asked if I used Crest toothpaste.....which I did. He told me to switch to Coalgate. So I switched and haven't had a canker sore in at least 3 or 4 years since I switched. Crest has some ingredient in it that makes the toothpaste foam up more, which can irritate some people and cause canker sores.

Interesting Potters--- Growing up I had kanker sores all the time...and my mom always bought Crest.... But for the last 6-7 years I've bought Colgate just because I like it better-- and I really don't get them often at all. I never would have put that together- I just always thought it was because I sort of grew out of it (well mostly--still get one every year or so). Smiley smile

My father used to use hot sauce on open cankers and it seemed to heal them. Not sure it would work on closed sores.

I have found that using Listerine helps me when I feel one coming on. It's worth a try.

Question for you, the ones on the side could you have possibly bitten the inside of your cheek while chewing? I know when I do that it feels like a canker, but it's really just a self inflicted wound. Listerine works for those as well.

I have an idea. I had a major canker sore on my 21st birthday, I was so pissed. I looked for cures online and kept reading to try lemon, honey, and tea bags. Well, I found an all in one and this turned out to be my favorite tea ever, so I always have some on hand now. You could wet the tea bag and hold it up to the sore or drink it and swish it around your mouth.
