Not A. diy Type of Bride

Kelly, on January 28, 2020 at 3:29 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 16
I am definitely NOT the DIY type. And I'm researching venues. It is completely depressing to see so many say that brides like to bring their own decorations. Yea, that is not me. But obviously we are on a budget, so if something needs to give, I guess it has to be my decorating skills? We are looking at venues in the Outer Banks and there are so many gorgeous event homes, but I wouldn't know the first thing about making it wedding ready. Any advice for the non-decorative?

If you're not a DIY bride then you have to hire someone to do your decor for you. My florist is doing my decor as well. This also comes with a particular budget so you will have to decide how much you want to spend on decor and how much decor that money will get you in your region.

Also it's not depressing to DIY a wedding, it's just more practical from a money standpoint and can be fun for those who love to create.

Do you and FH have crafty aunts, moms, sisters, bridesmaids etc? I would have a crafting party! Pick 2-3 things that you like, get the materials and order some pizzas and let your girls help you.

I’m not decorative at all lol, we just chose a gorgeous venue that didn’t really need to be decorated 😂🤷🏻‍♀️Not A. diy Type of Bride 1

The only DIY I did was my bridesmaid bouquets (though my bridesmaids all helped with that) and some signs. Though when I tried to paint the signs on wood, it looked like a 5 year old did it hahaha, so I ended up just printing them on paper and putting in frames :p And I painted on our guest book but that was pretty simple too. Otherwise no “decor” or anything.

Honestly I didn't diy that much of my wedding. You can buy already made things such as pretty banners or lights and put them around. You can even just get a centerpiece that's simple like a jar with fake flowers in it and nothing more. Decor doesn't have to be something you have to put together many things for.

You honestly don’t need decor. You can hire a florist to make some centerpieces if you want but nothing is really necessary. Most of the stuff people have as decor guests don’t notice.

I'm not a DIY bride at all, but I was able to buy some stuff in stores and get signs made by other people for cheaper than hiring a decor company.

I am not a DIY bride either. I tried and failed miserably. To decorate I bought some signs, cute picture frames, baskets, blankets and stuff of that nature. All the stuff I bought were items that I would have in my home. Nothing was specifically just for the wedding day.

If you want decor and dont want to make it, Etsy is usually a good place to look. Some things can be expensive, but i've also found some reasonably priced things on there as well

If you pick a venue that’s already pretty, then I wouldn’t worry about decorating too much. I had my reception in the backyard of a tea house that had lovely greenery and gardens, so I didn’t have to do any extra decorating. I found that a lot of outdoor venues don’t need much decorating at all. I think it’s more those blank slate venues or community centers with a plain room that “need” decorating of any kind.

I really think OP meant it's depressing to see so many venues they're interested in say "BYO decor" and that they aren't crafty and don't want to have to do this- not that they think of DIY weddings as depressing.

I'm crafty but I am not doing any of that for my wedding. My florist is handling table decorations and such, but other than that I am not planning on anything extra. Everyone has their priorities on how they spend their time - pick a venue that doesn't need the extra decorations.

Yes you will have to hire like a day of coordinator and/or florist. I am absolutely not a DIY bride but that’s just because I don’t think saving money is really worth all the stress and it may not even turn out the way you want it. So we hired a planner who is also our florist and it’s worth every penny! She takes all the stress away, does full set up and tear down, I just tell her my color scheme and where I want flowers!

Check for resale wedding decor! Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, etc....After weddings many crafty people sell their decor for a fraction of the price.

We specifically chose a venue that is gorgeous on its own and requires very little decor. It was a bit more expensive than other options we considered, but we are saving a lot of time, money, and resources by being able to do very little to make it wedding ready.

I know a lot of budget brides go for inexpensive venues but then need to rent or buy a lot of decor to make it look elegant, spending time and money on linens, chair covers, centerpieces, and nick-nacks and such. Our biggest decor investment is flowers, and my mom will DIY the table florals, but other than that we really don't need anything extra, but will probably have some photos, signs, and a few finishing touches. I shopped around for ideas and you can easily spend hundreds or thousands on decor you'll never ever use again, so for us it made more sense to go with a good venue and save ourselves the headache of buying decor, setting it up, cleaning up after, etc.

You so do not have to be a DIY bride! Shop around on Etsy for decor at decent prices too - if you order with enough time to spare, you can get decent quality on there for a lower price than you'd find at a brick and mortar shop while still supporting some artists which is awesome!

Keep in mind that saving TIME is saving MONEY. Your time is money!!! So many people seem to forget that whether it's planning a wedding or buying a fixer upper house!

So similar situation. 1st off I picked a venue that was naturally beautiful and doesn't need a lot of work. 2nd the time of year I think is helpful. We are getting married in December, so I am finding my winter decor is pretty simple/slightly rustic. 3. Just pick a simple design (we are focusing on the tables) and thats it!
Or look into rental/decorator people! Or ask for family/friend help!!.
