GM WW fam,

I was on my way to work this morning & heard this "no ring, no bring" topic on the radio. Apparently single ppl are invited to the wedding but if you are not engaged or already married you are not allowed to bring a plus 1. Had you ever heard of this tradion?

This is my 1st time ever hearing this one & in my opinion it doesn't matter to me one way or another just as long as they've RSVP'd the plus 1. What's your opinion?

I'm also doing this to a extent. Long-term bf and gfs will be invited, but I don't want to invite plus 1s just for the sake of inviting them.

It doesn't sound fair to gay couples in states that don't allow gay marriage.

We're giving +1 to all of our friends in long-term, committed relationships. As a matter of fact, one of our friends is married but practically separated and plans to get a divorce. His wife is not invited.

We told our guests that if they aren't in a long-term relationship in any form (live-in, engaged, married, dating for 2+ years), then please come alone. It becomes very expensive if everyone brings a plus one.

I have very few "singles" invited to my wedding...the few who aren't have an "and Guest" on their invites. It just depends on your list...if there's lots of people they will know, it isn't a big deal to send the single invite. However, if they will be stuck all alone, I would include an invite. I definitely think it's a case by case basis; you know your guest list best!

Yeah that's somewhat common now with how expensive weddings can be. We are going with a policy of engaged, married, or living together. Exceptions for couples where we've known and are friends with both for many years. I am also allowing my wedding party to bring dates as they are spending money to be in the wedding. If someone requests a date who doesn't fall into these categories we'll handle it on a case by case basis

We are not having random plus ones. Only long term couples (including long term, living together, engaged, married) will be invited together, and even then we know all of the partners.

I was brought up that you always include a plus one (whomever it is). It's for the courtesy of your guest so they can be accompanied by someone and don't have to be alone. You don't have to worry about introducing yourself to people you don't know, they probably could care less about meeting you either. Just saying...

We are also using this rule. I see no reason for my wedding to be a way for a person to bring a random date fir free food, drink and dancing for the night. SO's are invited by name to keep down confusion.

We are allowing our single guests a plus 1 if we have met them. We don't care if they are engaged or in a relationship for over a year. If we have not met them, they are not invited.

I wanted to do this, and technically I am on my side of the guest list. FH's guest list did not follow this sort of logic. We're now 15 people over our target invite count. Due to the cost of food and drink, I really, really hope the list doesn't grow again!

    I agree with annies post.

i have never heard of this. i don't think its fair to rate other peoples relationships. fh and i knew well before we dated a year that we were going to be together forever...and we didn't get engaged until 4 years or move in together until 3 years. so, had we recieved an invite with that kind of criteria of ring/living together or dating over 2 years...we would have turned it down.

If you are not married or not engaged my fiance' and I are not giving the option of "and guest".

FI and I are paying for the bulk of our wedding, we only guaranteed 65 guests and I have a large family, the last thing FI and I want to do is pay for a 'guest' that we don't know.

For me the only ppl getting a +1 are those in serious relationships. Mostly that means married or engaged with the exception of a few friends we have that have been dating for a while.

Basically if I've never met their SO odds are they aren't invited. FH and I are paying for most of the wedding ourselves so.. yeah. Plus there's a cap on the number of ppl the hall is allowed so we're trying to keep it small.

Normally, this also included people who have been dating for a long time. If your finances are tight or you have limited space, you just can't let everyone being a plus one. So rules like this exist to at least eliminate random flings as guests of guests and keep it to people who have some chance of still being in your life a few years from now.

All of our guests have +1's, BC they are in 6 month or more relationships. plus, 3/4 of guests are coming from out of state.

anonymous, that was kind of pointless to say.ur for the simple fact, that each of us know if we have gay/lesbian friends, and we know if we live in a state where same sex marriage is banned. that's called "extenuating circumstances". i highly doubt if you love your friends or family, a couple would think "well, John can't bring Jim, BC his plus one is illegal here. whew, thank goodness, we couldn't afford his ass anyways!"

seriously, who the hell thinks like that?!

Have to keep in mind that even though you don't invite "and guest" there is always the good chance the RSVP will come back replying for two. Now that puts you in the awkward position of telling that person they can't have a guest, or you add to your numbers unexpectedly. I have found with some of my family and friends when you always invite "and guest" you don't have to worry as much about the unexpected guest and usually if someone isn't in a serious relationship they don't bring anyone anyways and reply just "one", so BAM, instant savings....
