No Invite, No Entrance?

The Bride, on June 27, 2019 at 3:06 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 7 112

Weddings can be expensive so my husband and I were extremely firm with our guest list. We insisted that if a guest did not receive a plus one if was not personal but they could not bring an additional guest and any uninvited guest would not be allowed entrance. I know it sounds harsh but the reality is wedding crashers exist and venues will charge you accordingly. Is your wedding by invitation only? Do you mind having uninvited guests?

Oh yes. Invite only! If someone showed up uninvited I would lose my marbles.
There's RSVP and head count for a reason!

Thankfully we didn't have any uninvited guests at our wedding. My husband and I had discussed this with our wedding planner and uninvited guests would have been removed immediately.

We aren't expecting any uninvited guests, however, there will not be a seat or a plate for anyone who does surprise us.

Since my fh and I are paying for everything, we are just like you. We are going to be very firm on who we invite. Our guest will be rsvp through the site so they know they cant invite anyone else. That's what I love about it. No unexpected guests So hopefully no one shows up that's not supposed to.

That was our biggest worry! Assuming that the extra guests were family and friends, where would they sit and what would they eat?

We were so worried about uninvited guests that we put reminders in the invitations as well as on our website.

We aren't expecting any uninvited guests. However, I don't think we will go as far as turning people away. If it's someone we know, we'll probably try to figure out a place for them (if available). Like, if someone who was previously unable to attend managed to day of, I would hope they would give me more advanced notice, but if they came in unexpectedly, I'd try to accommodate them. If it's a random stranger who wandered in (the venue is a country club/golf course), I would politely ask them to leave.

In my culture there tends to be a lot of uninvited guests and the couple tends to accommodate them. I was lucky to not have that at mine. But I said should we do have any uninvited guests then I'd only want to accommodate them if there was space

Thanks for advice. I'll definitely do that to mine. The good thing is mine is mostly family (only inviting 48 total) so I've been informing them. But it's good to remind them just in case lol

Your right, I suppose I would have tried to accommodate a family member or friend who was able to make it at the last minute.

We are fine if uninvited people come and are already kind of expecting it BUT the area where our ceremony will be has a capacity and only those that were invited will have a seat. They can come, but they be standing! Not that anyone in our group will care about the standing part but still. We have made it very clear to everyone several times that there is a capacity yet they continue to try to invite themselves or other people.

As far as food, we are having a buffet and will be ordering extra anyway so we wont be charged anything for extra plates and such.

In the unfortunate event that there was no space that would be a very awkward conversation.

I wouldn't put up with obvious wedding crashers but a couple unexpected guests will not cause an upset. We are having buffet style and no assigned seats so it wouldn't ruin anything in that sense. Of course I would have a ??? moment in my head then move on.

Mine is invitation only and most of my “single” friends and family will get a plus one. Chances are 50% of them will actually bring a plus one (I think).

My husband and I had family and friends we haven't heard from in years trying to invite themselves. Unfortunately, we had to tell them no and thankfully they respected that and didn't show up.

We had a buffet and extra seats but we would have had to pay for extra guests to drink from the open bar and get dessert from our dessert room.

My husband and I didn't give everyone a plus one, just mainly family and friends who have spouses.
