No Inner Envelope?

KitCat, on April 17, 2012 at 7:08 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 35

My FH is insisting that we only have the outer envelope. I'm not feeling on board with this. Can I get some opinions on this?

We are just doing an outer envelope. With an inner envelope, you are adding expense and weight, so more expense for postage. I have yet to get a wedding invitation with an inner envelope.

I'd like to hear what people say about this too. My plans are to do the kits from Michaels, and they do not come with innner envelopes.

There are pros and cons both ways. I know the purpose of the inner envelope is to list exactly who is invited to the wedding, and it reiterates that fact. But, I THINK I will be ok with saying and family or and guest on the mailing envelope.

I'm doing pocket fold...so that's kinda an inner envelope, I guess. But definitely not necessary. =)

    Negative on the inner envelope.

Just means more money to me... and not to mention I think having an inner envelope makes it look more formal than what we're actually doing.

We had pocket folds so I didn't do an inner envelope either.

We used inner envelopes mainly because I just like the added touch that it gives the invitations and we had the budget for it. I also liked being able to make it super clear who was invited. For people who were given +1s, you can clearly add "and guest" on the inner, whereas "and guest" should never go on the outer.

It didn't affect postage because my invites were over 1 oz anyway so we were already paying extra.

We did not use an inner envelope. I liked the idea but the added expense seemed silly and unnecessary. I do like the look of an inner envelope but we just decided against it.

I didn't use an inner envelope either. Our wedding is in the summer and not super formal, and I did quite a bit of research and from what I found it's ok ettiquite wise as well.

Our wedding is semi-formal. We used pocketfolds and outer envelopes only. Cards and Pockets doesn't even make an inner envelope to fit their materials that I could find.

I think inner envelopes are lovely, especially for a full-on formal wedding. It's really just whatever you want.

We wrote exactly who was invited on the outer envelope and on the RSVP card.

We didn't do inner. I'm glad too, another one to address! Most I've seen lately haven't had inner envelopes.

My mother just asked me this today. I was not planning on using an inner envelope, but not this has me second guessing. I've toyed around with the idea of using the "__ seats have been reserved in your honor" on the RSVP to clear up any confusion, but I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Thank you, ladies!! You just made me feel soooooooo much better about the lack of inner envelope. I used the inner envelope, did fancy midevil calligraphy scroll work by hand, with my first wedding which was a MUCH smaller guest list. I will stick to just an outer envelope this time around. Thank you!

I'm not using inner envelopes either. Same reason as the other ladies, I didn't want the added expense. I am doing ___ adult seats are reserved in your honor on my RSVP.

We did inner envelope only, not only for added expense, but to be a little more green.

Waste of money and a tree! Only 1 envelope worked for us and we have had compliments on our invites like crazy.... Makes me laugh since they were well under $30 on vistaprint!
