No Inner Envelope?

My FH is insisting that we only have the outer envelope. I'm not feeling on board with this. Can I get some opinions on this?

I didn't use one. We used pocket invites though, if that makes any difference. Even if we didn't end up with the pocket invites I'd still opt not to use the inner envelope. IMO its a little old fashioned.

We did an inner envelope. they were included with our invitations. It didn't add to postage, we were still at a regular stamp. I think it adds a personal touch, and for those who do want to keep the invitation for a keepsake, it's an easy way to preserve it nicely--also, if your outer envelope gets destroyed by the postman or the weather, you still have a nice looking invitation because it's protected by that inner envelope, which will also stay nice. I was very, very glad we had used inner envelopes, as the weather was dreadful when I mailed them, and a lot of mail we got that week was wet, wrinkled or muddy.

We made our invitations. I did not include an inner envelope or RSVP card. I was able to mail them at the regular rate, and it saved us a TON of money.

We have a pocketfold card so we aren't using an inner envelope either. We are using the repositionable glue dots to seal the card so the contents can stay together without an envelope if anyone throws it out. Plus added weight might cost more for postage. We're assembling this week so I don't even know that yet.

I didn't do inner envelopes but I also didn't put everyone invited on the outside, needless to say I assume my guests are confused =).

I didn't do inner envelopes because I bought a kit from Michaels. I actually didn't know there were no inner envelopes when I bought the kit. I would have much preferred an inner envelope but was too darn lazy to hunt down the right size, etc.

We ordered Cate's invites from Kelly King. They come with inner envelopes. Invites set the tone of your wedding. Her wedding is more formal, so it made sense to use the inner envelope to give the invitation a more elegant appearance.

I originally didn't order inner envelopes. As I read more and more on Emily Post's website, I decided that I wanted them. I hated the idea of putting Ms. Name Here and Guest on the outer envelope, so I ended up ordering inner envelopes at the last minute. I am having a traditional, semi-formal wedding. I am also and English teacher and I feel that etiquette is very important, just as grammar is. I followed all of the etiquette precisely; I hand wrote 75 response envelopes, 75 inner envelopes, and 75 outer envelopes for a grand total of 225 envelopes. I think it was worth it and I am very proud of it, but I think that people should do what they want. If it isn't important to you, don't do it! : )

You don't really need to have them its ok to just have an outer and it will also save you some money.

We did an inner envelope so we could make it clear who was invited.

I bought my inner envelopes at Wal-mart for $4/box of 50 and we needed 3 boxes...

It might have affected our postage as we were just over the 1 oz. rule

We did test one through the mail and it sent with a .45cent stamp but we didn't want to take a risk of them being stamped on and returned if they needed more postage so we went with the .65cent stamps.

I like the formality of them, and no one can see your information through the outer envelope either...

I like an inner envelope overall, just my opinion :-)

Adding an inner envelope is not a very wise idea KitCat. I would have to agree with your FH. Besides, most of the people would want to receive a simpler invitation.

Did you guys do ungummed inner envelopes? I don't love the color of the ungummed but apparently that is more traditional!

I insisted on having inner envelopes. This caused a little consternation with my venue (who also handled ordering the stationery) because Carlson Craft (their vendor) does not include an inner envelope option for invites that use gatefolds, such as ours. I ended up using the provided outer envelope as an inner envelope and purchasing my outer envelopes from paperandmore.com.

For me, my wedding is black tie optional and I feel that the invitations are the first indication to guests of what to expect of the event. Also, my FH's family is very, very big and not everyone is invited. I wanted to make it very clear who was invited. I also included the "__ seats have been reserved in your honor" line on my response cards, but I felt that by including the names on the inner envelopes of those specific people who are invited, guests would be less inclined to think "Well, Tom can't make it but we have two spots so I'll bring Judy with me." No! If I invite Tom and Sally and Tom can't make it, I don't want to spend $85 on a rando.

Of course, my wedding isn't for a few more months so maybe all the plotting in the world won't keep randos from appearing at the wedding-- but I felt that the additional expense on the invite was worth it when compared with potential savings on (hopefully) not paying for plates for a whole bunch of unintended persons.

I don't see the reason behind the inner envelope. Its a waste of paper and trees. To me it makes no difference in the grand picture nor do guests even care
