No food wedding?

claire, on July 8, 2011 at 11:14 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 80

I'm really trying to stay on a budget and so one of the biggest expenses i can cut is food. So the reception is past dinner and i'm informing guests to eat since its such a small wedding but what if i want to have something else....like smores or decorate your own cupcake bar??? i don't know it doesn't necessarily have to be dessert. I would love some ideas and feedback on if this is a good idea or what to do.

Mmm I like the cupcake idea, its something my fh and I might do too, but we are doing like pit ham and stuff, too.. I have never been to a wedding that doesnt have dinner, maybe you could do like lunchmeat mini sandwich or something?

    You are joking, right?

What time is the ceremony? What time is the reception?

Is your wedding really 9 years away or is that tenative? I would think that for such a small wedding that you could afford to feed them nine years from now...

If you didn't want food because you would prefer to have a cake/punch reception that's up to you.. people do it.. but why not save up for food?

Uh, I don't like that idea. IMO Food is a must even if it's heavy appetizers. Maybe wait until you can at least feed your guests.

Oh wait, I just saw your date is 1/1/2020. You've got to be kidding? All those years you can have buffet, plated, dinners ect... For days. C'MON SON!

So - you are getting married on a wednesday in 9 years, and don't think you can afford to feed people at your wedding?

Punch and pie! More people will come if they think there will be punch and pie!

To be quite honest- in my personal opinion- having a reception with no food is not right. People are coming and bringing you gifts, but then they aren't even getting fed? I can understand how food is expensive, but there have got to be some cheaper options that will leave your guests feeling appreciated and not leave you hurting in the long run financially. Some local restaurants such as diners and even chinese restaurants do cater events for pretty cheap or you could even do the good old fashioned meatball sandwiches- something- anything that is going to show your guests that you appreciate that they came to share this time with you. If you can't afford to do this- I would honestly suggest pushing back your wedding until you are in a place where you can.

I hope it's not on New Years. Drunk people are hungry.

We need more information: what is your overall budget? Where are you spending the most? What are they doing at the reception, dancing? What are you thinking for alcohol?

There are a lot of things you should cut before food. You don't have to have Lobster dinners, there are a lot of options that are in between.
