No exit dress= Tacky?

Swin., on March 30, 2016 at 12:18 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 75

So, my roommate always raves about how TACKY it is to leave the reception in your wedding dress, but to me it seems so cute. Is this a common occurrence? I don't want tons of people talking about me behind my back, so should I start searching for a different dress to wear? Thanks, girls!

I don't know a single person who has left in anything but their wedding dress. It's likely one of the most expensive dresses/ items of clothing you will ever buy- why change if you don't want to?

That was the dumbest advice(or whatever you want to call it) ever! I will be wearing my wedding dress throughout the whole wedding.

Her problem with is it is afterwords, when you show up to wherever you are staying the night everyone will know what's going on and that's "trashy". I don't feel like I would think that at all, but I guess some people just really get crazy when it comes to weddings...

I'm already thinking of other times I could possibly wear my dress because I love it so much, no one's prying that thing off me except my new hubby. Smiley winking

If people would be talking about you behind your back, well, what kind of people are they anyway? Ones you give a crap about?

Ummm... no. not tacky. Quite normal

I wanted to keep my dress on forever!

No need to change. Ive actually never been to a wedding where the bride changed.

Tell your roommate to shut up

Haha. maybe it's a mormon culture thing? lots of girls change out of their dresses. It's probably 1/2 and 1/2.

Ha no. Not tacky. I think your friend/roommate needs to learn the definition of the word Tacky.

It used to be popular, for a bride to change in to a "going away" dress before leaving the reception. That, however, was a long time ago. Now, wear the gown! Not tacky, at all.

Not tacky at all i plan on wearing my dress all night. Even when we have the bon fire at our venue, they have a neat fire pit area.

Uhhh what century is your roommate living in? Most modern brides leave in their wedding dress. The days of changing into your traveling suit and heading straight on your honeymoon are long over.

I'm planning on leaving my reception in my dress and going to a bar for the after party. I've always wanted to go to a bar in my wedding dress. I've been to weddings where the bride went out afterwards in her dress and it's really fun.

Maybe if you are going somewhere public after you leave? If so, I would bring something comfy. My sister looked gorgeous leaving her reception in her wedding dress, and I will be doing the same

Omg the front desk people might think a couple in wedding wear is going to have sex!!! Your roommate is an idiot - married people are free to have sex with each other. If she tries to make this a religious thing, every wedding in the Bible was consumated with full knowledge of the guests.

I'm wearing mine the whole freakin' time - wedding, reception, after party. Luckily mine does not have a train and is lightweight chiffon. Additional dresses are not in the budget. I'm not even getting one for the rehearsal.

eta: my venue IS a hotel, I'm pretty sure everyone knows it's a possibility that we're going to have married sex that night.

I will be wearing my wedding dress for as long as I possibly can and until I am sick of it!!! Lol you only get to wear it once!!

I do know of people who's switch out into a reception dress- but I've never heard opting out is tacky. Maybe it's a cultural thing for her?
