No exit dress= Tacky?

So, my roommate always raves about how TACKY it is to leave the reception in your wedding dress, but to me it seems so cute. Is this a common occurrence? I don't want tons of people talking about me behind my back, so should I start searching for a different dress to wear? Thanks, girls!

Where is your roommate from? I've never seen such a thing in real life.

What the heck is an exit dress? Hell no I'm not leaving in any dress except my amazing wedding dress that I only get to wear once! Also I don't know why my profile picture has disappeared...

Until I was on here I had never heard of an exit dress. I have been to many weddings, all of which were very nice, and none of the brides at these left in anything other than there wedding dress. or if they did I didn't notice.

The amount of money I spent on that dress, it'll be staying on all night. If we decide to go out after we get back to the hotel okay maybe then I'll change, but chances are I'm not going to want to take it off!

Not tacky but I've definitely heard and seen this, particularly in weddings of girls who went to my college, all southerners.

I think the only time to change into another dress is if you are leaving immediately to your honeymoon, like you are about to jump on a plane and need something more travel appropriate. But otherwise I think it's normal to leave in your gown, I will be leaving in mine.

I've seen some brides opt for a shorter/more comfortable exit dress, but usually only when they're getting directly in the car and driving for a while to get to their hotel or next destination and don't want to sit in the car in a constricting dress. I wore mine all night and got amazing exit pictures in my too-expensive-to-change-out-of dress - and I don't think it was in any way tacky! I think this is really a "to each their own", but I definitely wasn't taking mine off just for the exit.

I'm changing at the reception to my cultural traditional attire, then I'm going to change back into my wedding dress just because I want to exit with my wedding dress. Plus FH wants to be the one who takes it off anyway Smiley winking.

I've seen this done once. And I actually thought they opposite. I couldn't help but think what a huge waste of money it must have been for this second fancy formal gown that she was seen in for all of 2 mins.

I believe in the past it was common to leave directly from the wedding to the your honeymoon. So you would change because your going to the airport or a long drive.

It is more common now to just go to a nearby hotel or home then go to honeymoon day or two after. So people now usually keep the wedding dress when they leave.

I would say if you're heading to the airport then by all means change. However, if not & just going to a local hotel or whatever the case may be keep that gorgeous gown on!!!
