Negotiating Hotel Wedding $

Angela, on April 12, 2012 at 4:21 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

Hello! We're 7 months out and I'm in the process of negotiating with my venue. We love the space but its just a little over our budget. Any advice on how I can negotiate the $ per person?

Ask. That's pretty much all you can do. Tell them your budget, and express that you would like to have your wedding there, but if they cannot work with you then you will have to look for a venue inside of your budget.

    Be nice, but firm.

Our venue was very negotiable. i'm not sure how fancy yours is but if you have butler appetizers as well as stationary opt for the stationary ones. maybe the type of meal you have chicken might be cheaper than steak

Always start with telling them your budget. "Hey we have $XXXXX to spend, what can we get with this? can you work with this?" At this point you have already set a limit and hopefully the hotel would do all tehy can to let you have your wedding there.

The time of day might also cut costs if you opt for a wedding during the day versus at night might cut costs tremendously

When I was originally looking at hotels and the prices were too high, I simply replied that they were too high and every place I was getting quotes from miraculously "could work with me" and within my budget. Doesn't hurt to ask.

Most places will work with your budget if it's reasonable. Very few will give you the exact same things for less dollars, but maybe a different menu, different room, different time of day. Less choices for entrees; less fancy hors d'oeuvres, shorter cocktail hour; just a great cake instead of hors d'oeuvres.

Still, the best way to cut the budget is to cut the guest list.

Make them an offer on what you are comfortable with - and see what they say. The worst they can say is no. But they could say yes. or come back with an alternative. Can you opt out of something they supply and diy or forgo completely?

See what you can take out of the price. We are ony having wine and beer and that brought us down $10 per person and made it within out wedding. See how much each things costs in your package if you removed it but don't go a la carte because you probably won't get everything that you want for your price.

I negotiated big time for our Flamingo Las Vegas hotel wedding. It's easier to be bold when you're only communicating via email Smiley winking. Otherwise I am afraid to negotiate Smiley sad. Just tell them what you envision and ask if they can come any closer to that. Don't be afraid to tell them exactly what you want! They probably won't give that to you but they will give you a good offer. And then you counter offer that. That's what I did and got over 1000$ off my wedding by getting buffet price lowered from 80-60$ per person. I only made a few minor adjustments to the menu to make it cheaper. I am in the process of negotiating the ceremony now and unfortunately all I have gotten thrown in is a free 12 rose boquet. Which is nice but I think they can do better. I'm going to push for more today! Good luck!
