My fiancé and I met during a musical that we were in together and he had the really sweet idea of getting married on the same date the show opened. I instantly loved this idea! However, I checked the date and apparently the show opened on September 11th. I still really like the idea because the date means something to us, but I don't know if it would be inappropriate to get married on that date because of the 9/11 attack. I was hoping that if we display the story of why we chose that date on save the dates and at the wedding, people will find it more sweet than somber. Thoughts?

I think your reasoning for the date is beautiful. Go for it. Understand that some will not come because of the date. Don't be angry about it. It can't always be doom and gloom. I knew people who lost lives there. It was a huge tragedy. Being someone who suffers from PTSD and anxiety I try and live by what I was told once "You can't let tragedy dictate the rest of your life. Weather it be your own tragedy or someone else's."

Just to add in, your one year anniversary would be the 20th year since the attack. A big deal. Just something to keep in mind. I personally wouldn't.

If you want to involve the dates of this show why not the day it closed? 9/11 is still really fresh for a lot of people, especially military families or people with uniformed jobs. Personally, I don't have any people currently in the military or uniformed jobs. No one in my family was personally directly affected by the attacks. No family or friends in NYC. So for my family a September 11 wedding wouldn't raise any questions. You should just think about your personal situation. I agree with PPs that life has to go on, so choose that date if you want. Just think about the situations of your specific guests
