Need Advice: Honeyfund or no Honeyfund?

I just came across the idea of a Honeyfund. I don't know anyone who has used one before so I'm curious for those who have, was it worth it? what did you like and not like about it? and what sites would you recommend if you're for it! UPDATE: We can afford our own honeymoon. Both sides of the family...

I just came across the idea of a Honeyfund. I don't know anyone who has used one before so I'm curious for those who have, was it worth it? what did you like and not like about it? and what sites would you recommend if you're for it!

UPDATE: We can afford our own honeymoon. Both sides of the family are notorious for giving money instead of gifts and we barely registered for anything because we have everything we need and most of what we want, SO that's why I decided to look into it.

If I was a guest at your wedding I would rather give you money to enjoy on a trip than an ugly gravy boat that you would return to Macy's the next day. Do what makes you happy!

It's all up to you. If you know some of your family and friends would rather give money towards the honeymoon than buy a gift then there no harm in putting it out there as an option.

No. Please do not do this. It is not in good taste. Would you stick your hand out and ask for money on the corner? No? It's the same idea for a Honeyfund. In my hometown and social circle there, a Honeyfund is beyond rude because you just don't give money for weddings. It's considered vulgar. Wedding gifts are usually gifs for your home. Giving money is common in some areas; just don't ask for it. People will give it (depending on your area).

Rachael R. It's my wedding I will do as I please as I know for a fact half of my FH family has already asked if they could donate money to the honeymoon instead of buying us something we don't need.

Ah there's the "it's my day I'll do what I want" comment by a one star. How predictable

@Samantha, so if you will do as please does that include saying no to your parents? ETA: such as declining offers of self-catering.

If I was invited to a wedding with a honeyfund, I would purchase a personalized lawn gnome. I normally give cash because I know how to adult but if someone is going to be tacky and straight up ask for money then I am going to get them something useless they cannot return.

@Samantha, I know someone who said the same thing. And she floated her Honeyfund idea around and got such negative feedback that she quickly changed her mind. I told her I wouldn't give money toward her Honeyfund because guess what? I'm not funding her vacation. I instead funded a beautiful set of glass vases that when she uses, she'll remember, oh, my good friend Crescent gave these to me as a wedding gift. I know she will use them because she Put. Them. On. Her. Registry. If people choose to gift you with money as a wedding gift, that's awesome. But for goodness sake don't ask for it!

All I'm saying is if they want to have the option of donating to the honeymoon instead of buying a gift I see nothing wrong with it. A lot of people don't need anymore household gifts.

Samantha then those people can give them a check if they want to, without being hit up for money

@Samantha, Self-catering, and potential food poisoning associated with self-catering

@OP: If you really don't want that many physical gifts, either have a small registry or no registry at all. Most people will get the hint.

Oh my gosh. People don't need to be reminded to give money at a wedding, Samantha...
