My wedding ring broke--Pissed is an understatement-update in comments

Mrs Drakthal, on October 31, 2013 at 8:11 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 26

I will never give Zales one more dime.

After the fiasco of having to have that ring sized three times for them to get it right. After being treated like shit in one of the other stores because I had the audacity to walk into their store with my non-white daughter (found out from someone that was exactly the prob the lady was once married to a black man). I wake up this morning and hop in the shower, go to wash my hair and suddenly my ring is catching in my hair. I pulled my hand away to discover a chunk of the gold missing from the back of the ring. The break is not jagged it is perfectly smooth. Obivously the chunk of gold that is missing is the "piece" they put in to size it!

I am done with Zales! I have worn that ring for exactly one month and two days! I want my effin money back and will go replace it at a real jewelry store!

Wow... I am almost speechless. If I were you, I'd write a letter or call their corporate and report them!!! That is absolutely ridiculous and you should do whatever you can to get a full refund. Not a replacement, A REFUND!!

Yeah I am so done dealing with them. I tried emailing corporate about the rude biddy in the store who told us to wait outside the store while cleaned my ring. Their solution, give her my phone number so she could call and berate me on the phone!

Wow - yea def call and bitch as much / loud as you have to. This is completely unacceptable.

I know you don't want to deal with them but they need to know they messed up.

Call the store complain. Ask for their district managers number. Then ask for her bosses number. Then call corporate. Make sure to send emails too. There is no reason they should of had to resize it 3 times. No wonder it broke! They need to give you your money back or replace your ring with the proper size at no cost to you. You can only size up / down so many time before jewelry becomes very week at that point Smiley sad SO sorry hun !

Take pics of your ring so when you email them you can show them what they did

I dont even want a replacement I want my money. I do not trust them.

eta: I originally bought the ring at MidRivers Mall, they sized it the first time. The second time I took it to South County Mall because the lady at MidRivers did not seem to know what she was doing I tried to tell her the ring wasnt right when I picked it up and she kept arguing with me that they sized it right and that it should fit. When I took it to South County they discovered the ring was a full size smaller than my e-ring. First set of people that sized it at South County took it up to the same size as the ering which still wouldnt fit, much wider ring then the ering.

So my question should I take it back to MidRivers or South County? South County is much more convenient to us. (We originally went to MidRivers cause that was close to where I was working at the time)

As someone who works for a jewelry store this blows my mind. If you are buying something of quality, even if it is sized three times you shouldn't have any problems with this. Granted sometimes shanks will split after years of wear (I'm talking like 10-20 years) but after a month? No way.

Go back to whatever store was the nicest to you. Don't yell at them or anything. Just explain the situation. They should have some kind of warrenty.

Heather the chunk that is missing is so obvious that it was cut, spread apart, and metal added. At this point I no longer trust Zales, I want my money back and want to go to a professional jewelers that knows what they are doing.

ETA: So I just called the South County location. She started out saying "well we can let you pick something else" when I told her how I was treated at the Illinois store that the racist b told me to wait outside the store she said she would talk to the manager and regional manager and see if they can refund my money. I told her flat out I no longer trust Zales and do not want anything from them.

WOW, just wow. I am like the others, I would be on the horn with Corp office! I would have names at the stores too if you know them. I won't be going to those stores and I LIVE in St Louis. I do know through my Aunt that Romantique on Mckelvey Road in Bridgeton is family owned and she highly recommends them. It is by Depaul Hospital off ST Charles Rock Road

I'd take it to wherever the ring was sized. If it broke because of the sizing then they'd be your issue.

I will say we bought mine at Jared's and they are competent and do everything on the spot. I usually hate jewelry places because its all about the sale but they were truly all about the customer... I even get excited to get my ring cleaned because I get to go look ( and not be pressured).

Jared is where my hubby's ring came from and where I plan on going to replace my ring.

We have been dealing with Zales. And with Zales they take your ring and send it to the same place to be sized. The size of the piece that has disappeared tells me that they should have started with a bigger ring. And if they didnt have a bigger ring then they should have told me and we could have gone from there!

I feel you on Zales craftsmanship. Ive had rings from them before, my ex got my old e-ring from there. Stones were constantly falling out of it, prongs would bend no matter how careful i was with it, it never ended. I finally forced him to return it and buy me something else.

Tried to give me the run around and then when I bascially pointed out that I have nothing but problems and that I do not "trust" them the assistant manager said she will see what she can do. I know they are going to want me to get something else from them but I dont want too I want my money and I will go elsewhere!

There is always the BBB and if needed Contact 2 or the other stations. They may be able to help. I love watching reports where they get help for the "little guy" with shady retailers and contractors.

Skip the BBB they are a scam anyway. I will call Channel 2 if they do not give me my money back. This is beyond ridiculous! Wish I had taken a picture of the ring so I could show you guys!

Well Zales at South County just called. If I bring them the ring back and my paperwork they say they will refund my money. I want to keep my engagement ring because it is exactly what I wanted. But we will be going elsewhere to replace my wedding ring.

Eek, my ring is from Zales (e-ring) and it is too big so they said they would order me a special sized one (which sucks b/c I have to give up my original e-ring) but that's the only way to ensure that it will not fall apart or that diamonds won't fall out from so much re-sizing. It was originally a size 7 and they made it a 5 which is too big so now I am waiting on a 4.5 custom made one to come in.... PRAYING I don't have any trouble with them and so sorry to hear your horror stories! So glad they are giving you your money back too!

Ashley, if the jewelry is order a special order one...they are doing the right thing. Most lady's rings come in a standard size 7, and if you have to size more than 1 or 1 1/2 either direction it is best to order one that is made correctly for that size needed.

I worked as a store manager for Kay's about 6-7 years ago...prior to working for my family's wedding venue. If there are channel set diamond in your band....sizing from 7 to 4.5 could make diamonds fall out of the channel. You should be fine!

I would have never let them size from a 7 to 5...that is way to big of a jump...I am very glad they are special ordering one in 4.5!
