My Finger Nail Fell Off 1 Month Before my Wedding!!!

Stephanie, on September 7, 2011 at 11:18 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

I slammed my finger in the door and my whole fingernail fell off! The sad part is, I am less than a month away from my wedding.

Is there anything I can do with Acrylic, gel, anything to make it look like a nail for the wedding day?

No, its on my right hand thank goodness. I'm hoping to find a way to just disguise it. I went and bought vitamins to help it grow faster.

Well thats good, I don't think many people will be that close to be able to see it, and when taking pictures it can easily be hidden! Dont worry everything will work out fine!

Okay - so this is non-professional advice (meaning don't hold me liable - same reason the salon won't put on an acrylic!), but when I had a toenail fall off in a kickboxing class in the middle of summer, I used an at-home fake toenail - imagine my shock that such things exist! - and it worked out just fine. The skin under the nail tends to be on the thicker side or will be in a little while, and you can just stick on the drugstore nail glue and nail. I did it for the couple of months until there was enough nail to paint, but at the very least I would say it's reasonably safe to do for the week of the wedding. Just my two cents from personal experience!

I smashed my ring finger, pinky finger and middle finger in the swinging doors at work literally two days before my FH proposed to me, they were soooo swollen and all the nails turned black...and my FH kept telling me to ice them lol to make the swelling go down....turns out he was afraid the ring wouldnt fit on my fingers because of how swollen the tips were lol

There should be enough of a nail there to be able to put a tip on it before your wedding. The smart thing to do is to go talk to a nail tech. They will be able to give you the best answer. Just make sure you keep the area clean so it doesn't get infected. nails tend to grow fairly fast though, I really think it will all work out for you.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'll definitely keep you posted on what ends up happening. But all your advice has really put my mind at ease.

I lost a toe nail about a month ago (stupid clumziness!) I've been putting a Sally Hansen nail growth stuff on it. No idea if it's helping, but it's helping to give me some peace of mind that I'm trying to do something about it.

Owie... Haven't had that happen for a long time, but I agree that you could probably disguise it with a fake nail. No one will look that close and if they do - no one will hold it against you.

Clean with normal saline. Apply neosporine or triple antiboitic ointment and a bandage daily. NO NOT APPLY A FAKE NAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will be setting yourself up for infection. Take pictures with bouquet covering that hand. Stand on right side for pictures so hand isn't showing. Just few suggesstions

I agree with Lonyah. While a fake nail most likely won't "hurt", it will provide a breeding ground for bacteria and yeast and greatly increases your risk for infection. Which is worse....no nail or horrible infection? :-)

I don't know why it was flagged. All she said was that nail salons won't put an acrylic on because of possible infection.
