My diamond fell off my RING!!!!!!!

Strwpink, on March 26, 2011 at 12:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 34

So in the midst of this wonderful planning the worse thing you can possibly think of happens to me. I came into work early this morning at 8 and figured I needed a little coffee to wake me up so my teammate and I did a quick run to starbucks. As I'm pulling in and turning the wheel I notice my diamond is missing that I brake so hard she almost literally flew out the window. I was freaking ou so we back tracked every step I made and thank god it was right near the gate of my store. Forget the coffee that was my wake up moment right there, have any of you ladies had this issue? I have a veragio ring so if anyone has one of these do you think I should get another style?

Oh my! that's such a nightmare!

i hope your ring is guaranteed- i know with mine, even if i lost the diamond, it would be free to replace it and get it fixed.

how is your diamond set? i don't think you'd need to get another style, just get it fixed and make sure they set it securely!

Did the diamond itself just pop out of the setting? Or did the whole head of the ring (metal prongs) come off? It would be easier to tell you whether you might have overall problems with your setting if you post a picture of your ring because diamonds can be set a number of ways and some of those settings regularly have problems.

Wow ! Glad you found it. I guess just talk to the jeweler and ask what they think happened. Can they make the prongs any tighter? Do you have the diamond insured incase next time you can't find it? If you get a setting with 6 prongs I think you can break up to 2 before the diamond will fall out. good luck! Would have given me a heart attack. Glad you found it.

Oh jeez! I would have flipped! So glad you found it. Our rings are guaranteed as long as we take them in for a check every 6 months so the store can catch a loose rock BEFORE it falls off.

I am so glad you found it! My ring has some sort of jewelry plan that covers it if the diamond falls off, but you may want the jeweler to either change the setting or get you some bigger prongs to hold it in there!

The ring does have life time warranty as long as we get it cleaned every six months. What it doesn't warranty is if the diamond is lost!!!!!! I'm so grateful I found it I was about to cry. And the crazy thing about it is it literally popped ou the entire ring from the beginning has been nothing but problrms, even the stones around the band have been falling off. Let's just say it is a really expensive ring to have this many issues with it already.

Rosely if the diamond just popped out of the setting chances are one of the prongs got pulled back if you have a 4 prong setting. I would definitely look at taking out other insurance (either through something like Jeweler's Mutual or by scheduling it on a homeowners/renters policy) to make sure that your diamond is covered for loss.

If you're having overall problems with the ring it could be one of two things: a design flaw, or care. Gold rings shouldn't be introduced to things like chlorine (like in a swimming pool) because it can degrade the metal alloys gold is mixed with and make the setting less secure. You also shouldn't sleep with your ring on because the prongs can catch in fabric and get pulled back. If you can avoid washing your hands and taking showers with your ring on that is also good.

If you're already doing all of these things and still having problems then when the ring was originally designed its possible things weren't set correctly. Talk to your jeweler and see if they could make an exchange for the same setting and see if that helps.

Don't sleep in it? Don't wash your hands in it? Seriously??? I like to keep my ring on as much as possible and only take it off to shower, do dishes or go to the beach. I couldn't imagine taking it off to sleep and wash my hands. I would be sure to leave it on a bathroom sink somewhere!

Oh wow. Well, first thing, if it's been a constant problem with some of the diamonds falling out, get it insured! Second, if the store you got it from will not do anything about it, take it somewhere else and see if they can come up with a solution. DS mentioned that my e-ring originally only had 2 prongs holding the center diamond and before he purchased it, he asked the jeweler to add an additional two more prongs and I have never had any issues with my rings and I do everything with them on, the only time they come off my finger is when I have to get them cleaned and polished.

I take my ring off when I am washing my hands, but just because I have one of those rubbery ring snuggies on it since it is too big. I want to wait to see if I lose more weight (hoping) before I get my ring resized.

I'm so glad you found your diamond! Even though mine isn't a diamond I would still be freaking out if I lost my amethyst!

@Sarah C Those are the ideal things to do with your jewelry if you don't want things to wear out as quick. I used to work in jewelry and all certification programs suggest those exact same things. All of those things can cause a lot of wear and tear on your ring and to me its worth it to take it off for those activities so that I don't lose a diamond or have to have my ring restructured down the line. I do all of those things and do perfectly fine.

At home I take it off, but at work, I leave it on when I'm washing my hands. I would hate to leave it in the job bathroom. It would be stolen so quickly.

@mynameskatie- I take my ring off with dishes and shower the only time I don't take it off is when I'm sleeping but yeah I try to take care of it as much as I can.

I am so glad you found your diamond! I just thought mine had fell out once when I found one of my daughter's fake diamonds laying on the floor. I felt sick!! Then I looked at my hand and it was there. Not even the same size. But to actually lose it!! I bet you WERE freaking out. Somebody was looking out for you. I would def look into having the ring insured since it seems you've been having problems from the beginning.

I would look into getting a different top with more prongs. I six prongs and even with that I did lose and find my diamond also. It makes you heart stop. It is more to have the extra prongs but you can by just the crown with more prongs and it will give you a more secure setting.

OMGawsh! I would been frekin out if that happened to me. I'm so glad that you found it though. Hopefully you can do something like mynameskatie suggested and get insurance which covers a lost diamond.
