We met through my sister and his best friend. They used to date, and the best friend wanted to spend New Year's Eve with my sister, so she told him to bring along some friends. That night, we met and went out to eat. We began talking online, began hanging out casually, and it didn't take long before we fell in love. Four years later, we went on a trip to Boston, one of our favourite vacation spots, right after Christmas. He was quiet the whole way there. We spent New Year's Eve there, and went out for a nice dinner to celebrate the anniversary of when we met. On the way, we laughed about how we never exchange gifts or really celebrate the occasion. He wouldn't tell me what restaurant we were going to. We arrived at "Mama Maria", a gorgeous Italian retaurant downtown, and the hostess escorted us to a small private room. I found this strange, but then the server walked in and commented on how we lucked out with our seats (they were all in on it!). We ordered, and after our salads, He said, "I actually did get you something for our anniversary", and I asked, "You mean the private room?". He smiled, reached into his pocket, and opened the case of a beautiful solitaire engagement ring, setting it on the table. My jaw dropped. He asked, "Will you marry me?" and I went, "Well, yeah!!" I asked him to put it on me, got up to kiss him, and then our entrées came. He told me later that he was going to wait, but he realized he wouldn't eat anything if he didn't ask right then. I never thought he would be able to surprise me, because I'm so darn nosy, but he did :) We spent a good part of the ten hour drive home with him driving, me looking through bridal magazines, and discussing everything from dates, guest lists, and big ideas. We still joke that if I had said no, I would have been left in Boston.
