Mountain or Beach Wedding?

Amy, on December 27, 2019 at 12:54 AM Posted in Planning 0 22
I'm open to hearing your opinions. I understand that my fiance and I ultimately have to decide on our location, but please share your thoughts. Should we get married on his family's gorgeous mountain land in Colorado then drive half an hour to the reception estate - luxury log cabin? Or get married on the sandy beaches in South Carolina with a reception walking distance from the ceremony? We live in Wyoming (at the border of Colorado), his family and our friends live in Colorado/Wyoming and my family is in South Carolina, 50 people invited, no date yet but spring or summer probably.

Both sound beautiful! I am voting beach cause that’s what I’m having as well, and a walking distance reception sounds extremely convenient!

Are both sides of the family well enough off to travel - financially and health wise? That could be a deciding factor. I love both options, I would go with mountain - it sounds so memorable. Do you have a dream dress style? That can help in location decision. Do you have a color scheme or theme you would like to incorporate, pinterest ideas?

I think this is a know your audience type thing, meaning health, finances and willingness to travel. How many guests from both sides are invited? Consider your costs either way.

It really depends on the date for me. I would prefer a beach wedding in the spring since the mountains will probably be rainy, but I would prefer a mountain wedding in the summer because the beach will be uncomfortably hot. In general, I think that a mountain wedding is the better option as long as it's done properly.

They would both be beautiful. It’s always bren the beach for me. We got married on the beach with a reception at the Hyatt just steps from the beach. It was beautiful but it’s what I always wanted. I’m sure you see yourself in one more than the other so just go for it. Family will travel to either if they plan to attend so do what makes you happy. Just consider the time of year, heat, rain, etc. Good luck!

These are both good options, however, I would choose the mountain wedding. Beach weddings are typically hot and, well... sandy lol. As a guest, you get dressed up to attend a wedding and leave covered in sand and with beach hair. Especially in SC with the humidity (I live in NC, so I know it all too well). In the mountains, you get the beautiful views and weather is usually not an issue unless you are planning a winter wedding, which I wouldn't suggest.

Either way, it will be beautiful. Good luck!

I totally hate sand. I hate getting it everywhere once you leave the beach. So I vote mountain! Also I’ve been to wedding where the reception is 30 minutes away- it’s not ideal but people will still come! Just know that some people will probably choose to just leave. However, If someone is traveling a ways just to go to the ceremony, they might be more inclined to go to the reception as well since they made a big trip out there already! It really depends on what you want though!

Mountains for sure. I’m from NC, live in CO, and have family everywhere but mainly in SC. I’m a violinist and I’ve seen all kinds of weddings. And beach weddings usually have a lot of issues that mountain weddings don’t. They look pretty in the movies but there are heavy winds, heat, sand, frizz, difficult parking, and bugs everywhere. I know sometimes people get lucky and have a perfect beach wedding. But if you’re choosing between them, mountains are a much better bet.

Both sound absolutely lovely. I'm a bit biased since I live in Colorado and I'm getting married in Rocky Mountain National Park xD.

I am doing a beach wedding and in already having remorse since sand gets everywhere and can be quite sticky if its warm! If I had the opportunity to have a beautiful mountain landscape I would take complete advantage!!!! but inevitably it is your decision and both are very beautiful settings Smiley smile

I am voting for the mountains. Both options sound beautiful but I think in the long run, having it on the families land will make it more sentimental and it is also much closer for everyone.

This is all just my personal opinion, but I hate sand and the beach in general... I'm originally from FL, which is maybe why I can't appreciate the beach as much as others, so I vote mountains!

I would choose the mountains, I wanted to elope in the Smokies. The mountains offer a gorgeous background for photos. The beach can be beautiful as well, I’ve been to a sunrise and sunset wedding on the beach. However I’m not a fan of the sand, I’m also from Florida. I would think about which family is able to travel and choose based on that.
