Mom has a question: morning wedding attire

MzRosaLu, on February 16, 2016 at 7:42 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 27

My mother and I have been shopping around for her MOB dress. We always envisioned her in a long dress, because we like that look and also because she has some psoriasis issues with her legs that she wants to cover up.

However, she told me she read somewhere that it's not appropriate to wear a long dress for a morning wedding. Our ceremony is at 11 am followed by a brunch reception.

Thoughts? Can she wear a long dress? (Photo attached of one of the dresses she likes.)

I think a long dress would be absolutely fine, especially since she's MOB. I probably wouldn't wear a long dress as a guest but someone in a significant role would look completely normal (to me) in a long gown at a wedding.

I love that dress. I think whatever she wants to wear is fine! It used to be taboo for anyone to wear black to a wedding. I see MOB in black dresses and they are stunning! A long dress in the morning is fine!

I wouldn't think twice about it if I saw the MOB in a long dress. That dress is lovely, so I would say she should go for it.

I agree. I've never heard of that rule. If that's what she likes and feels comfortable in she can wear it

Thanks, ladies. I thought so as well, but I think she just needed some more reassurance lol. :-)

That's dress is awesome. I've never heard this rule either. I think if someone is offended by what your mom is wearing they should take a hike. As long as she's comfortable and you don't care, nothing else matters.

I'm in the boat that all of the fashion rules are stupid and you can do what you want.

So therefore, she can wear a long dress. I don't even see the logic in the rule haha.

That dress is gorgeous. If she wants to rock it let her. I've never heard of this rule and even if people had they won't care because its so pretty.

I have heard of it but so what? If you and she like it, that's what matters. So pretty!

ps My son's mil and I wore long dresses to his and my dil's wedding (late morning) and then another, bit fancier one for the evening reception. Oh and the gap was hosted!

"Rules" aside, I think the MOB can wear whatever she wants, except maybe something white.

My wedding is a brunch too. My mom is wearing a short dress only because that's her preference as she's 5'2" and feels frumpy in long dresses. My FMIL might wear a long dress.

I think whatever makes your mom feel beautiful is what she should wear, and the dress she likes is gorgeous!

I had an 11:30 ceremony and my mom wore a floor length formal dress and it was beautiful! I don't see anything at all wrong with it. She's the MOB, she should go all out Smiley smile DH's mother's dress was long as well.
