Matching Bridesmaids?

How much of your bridesmaids appearance are you controlling? Are you just picking out their dresses, or their shoes, make-up, hair too? Where is the line? I just went to a wedding where the bridesmaids did their own hair. There was this one girl that tried to curl her hair like an old time pin-up girl and it ended up looking like Raggedy Anne instead.

I don't want to be featured on Bridezillas! LOL

I chose three different dresses and three different style shoes and let them pick which they liked the most. The dresses were all the same fabric and color, but completely different silhouettes. I also chose different heel heights for the shoes. Oddly enough, three of my four BMs chose the same dress and they all chose the same shoes.

As for jewelry, I bought them some, but they can wear whatever they want. I am paying to have their makeup professionally done, but what they want to do is up to them. For their hair, they can pay to have it done or do it on their own. I just want them all to feel comfortable and beautiful and I don't want to empty anyone's bank account. I guess the only thing I am really controlling is their bouquets, but I don't think they mind Smiley smile

I am letting my girls pick their own dress style from some pics that I have chosen. Seeing that everyone is different shapes I would let them choose what makes them comfortable. Shoes will be silver I don't really care about the style. As far as hair make up it must be professionally done. Make up...um not decided yet.

I just picked the color for the dresses and suggested that they be the same fabric, i also told them i preferred that they all be the same or all different. there's only 3 of them so if 2 went with the same dress and one different, i thought that'd be weird (even if it's moh) but that i didn't really care one way or another as long as they liked what they were wearing! all my girls ended up going with the same designer but picked different dresses. besides that, i bought them matching earrings, a clutch in whatever colors they wanted so they could use it after the wedding and asked him to wear whatever black shoes they liked. as for hair, they can pick what they want. we pretty much all have the same style with some "low curly bun" type thing, so we'll end up being similar. oh! and i got them vintage rhinestone brooches that match my hair comb, and made them into combs for their hair too Smiley smile

I picked the dress, the color, the shoes, and the hair style.

I chose the designer and the color of the dress. (Dessy in Kiwi) I didn't specify length, style or fabric. Everyone picked a different dress, but they all complement one another. I am asking they pick a neutral shoe and I am letting them all choose their own jewelry, hair and makeup. A couple of my girls are going to do their own hair or makeup. But, I trust them and they will all be gorgeous regardlessSmiley smile

I picked the length, color and style. And by style I mean I picked about 10 different style dresses I liked and told them to go get the one that they wanted for their body type and budget. I did not require any particular shoes, jewelry hair or make up styles. IMO, if you require that hair and make up to be professionally done, YOU need to pay for it and not make it their "gift". If I was in a wedding and that was my "gift", I'd be very annoyed.

I did make a deal with my Hair/MUA to give my girls a good price if they chose to use her but it was not required nor expected.

Most likely I will just choose a few different styles I like that are by the same designer...same length...and same fabric and let them choose...I don't like the whole idea of having everyone in the same dress and as far as hair and makeup that's whatever as long as it looks good....I told my makeup artist that if anyone wants to get makeup done that's on them

I picked "navy to royal blue", knee length, A-line, no sleeves, no ruffles or lace or stuff fancier than my dress. And I told them silver jewelry if they choose to wear jewelry. And black or silver shoes. Hair & makeup to be natural and simple. I provided examples of everything I was going to be doing, and told them they weren't allowed to upstage me.

The girls liked it a lot. They all felt comfortable in what they were wearing, LIKED their dresses, and looked quite beautiful. We got ready together, the ones better at hair and makeup helped the others (and they got my mom taken care of).

They all had matching bouquets (cause I was the bride and providing those was my responsibility--although they got to see picts in advance) and coordinated just fine for photos.

My MOH's get to choose the dress and hairstyle they want (I am paying for hair and makeup for all of us so it will be professionally done). I chose only the color. I haven't decided on a gift yet so I may be controlling the jewelry if I go that route, if not, they can choose that too! I just want everyone comfortable and happy!

I'm having them choose their dress. I gave them 3 options that I found and my MOH and I tried on. They are all 3 different styles all fit for my wedding. They will vote then I will let them know which one it will be. (trying to make it a little fun!) Their all 3 great dresses and good for all body types. I'll pick the shoes and give them jewelry as a gift.

Just remember it's your wedding. If you want them to look the same or just be in the same color/different dress. It's up to you!! Smiley smile

I got really lucky when I went I have no ideas on what I wanted for my girls and they all choose this one dress that they fell in love with and looks amazing on them all!! I'm buying their jewelry as a gift and we all decided that each girl is comfortable with different size heels so they are choosing their own shoes just as long as they are silver!

I have a few dresses that I've picked out and I am going to let them go try them on and collectively agree on one. I do not like how different dresses look in photos so I want them to all have the same dress. I haven't decided on hair yet though. I think I am going to have us all go together the day of and allow everyone to choose their own hairstyle.

I picked out the dresses, letting them pick their shoes (praying my sister will get flats, but that's doubtful lol she towers over me by like 5ins), I bought their jewlery and hair pieces, they do whatever they want with their hair by my styliest, and they choose their make up.

I picked the color only and am letting THEM agree on a dress. If I'm stressing out on what the bridesmaids are wearing, then I've lost sight of why I'm getting married to begin with.

I controlled nothing-- i knew my friends would all dress appropriately, and with one slim Asian, one slim blond, and one plump blond, there was no way I could pick a color/style that would make my loved ones comfortable and feel good at my wedding so I said, 'Wear what you want, and don't blame me if you never wear the dress again!' My wedding pics will never be featured as 'prettiest wedding ever', but my bridesmaids looked great, we all had fun, and it was one less thing for me to worry about.
