I'm in desprate need off advice, last friday I went to my doctors office I didnt know why just knew I had to come in that day. My doctor informed me that she received my results back for my genetic cancer testing, I have an aggressive cancer gene that puts me at an 87% risk of getting aggressive breast cancer she told me that she feels within 3 years I will have cancer. So she said a double mastectomy is needed and is the only way to prolong my life. As she's s saying this my thoughts were ok I need a boob job later found out the reconstruction That day in the doctor office I was also told I carry another gene that puts me at 70% risk of getting ovarian cancer so I also need to get a hysterectomy. The issue I'm faced with is I'm 24 I won't be 25 till march so bout 9 months away my insurance wont cover my surgeries intill then my birthday is on the 28th and my WEDDING IS ON MARCH THE 22nd!!!! I don't know if I should push my wedding way back or get married and then go into surgery?

So sorry to hear that you have to go through this, but I'm happy for you that you have a quick decision! I think you're doing the right thing. My nieces father had to be tested for the gene too, because his parents had it and gave it to two of their daughters/his sisters - the one battled a severely aggresive breast cancer that resulted in brain cancer very quickly before she died. (Thankfully my brother-in-law is negative which means my nieces are too, it was SUCH a relief to know that.)

Good luck with everything! You, your health, and your wedding are in my prayers! Smiley smile

Again my very sorry that you are going through this

Im very glad you can have it now

    (((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))

on a side note, when your choosing implant size...go about 125cc's bigger then you think, as the mussel compress's it and it will give you size that you want

I'd get a second opinion. Don't go rushing into surgery without opinions from at least 2-4 doctors.

I'm proud of you. If it helps my mom's recovery from mastectomy and reconstructive surgery wasn't nearly as bad as she expected. You shouldn't have pain at all thanks to the meds, just an uncomfortable feeling as muscles stretch and get back in place if that makes sense. Look at it as a time to rest and take care of yourself, sleep a lot, read magazines, watch trashy TV, whatever. Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions that I can pass on to my mom.

Denise I am so glad your insurance is cooperating. Sometimes, dealing with insurance is more painful than the reason you're calling them!

Take care of your health and then finalize your wedding plans when you know you're back to 100%. If you're not 100%, it's okay to postpone or change your plans.

Please come back and update us when the surgery is done and feel free to post for T&P on your way in..........this is a really supportive community here and people will want to know you're okay! (If you care to share, of course!)

Definitely get a 2nd and 3rd opinon. Cancer isn;t something you want to wait on if you have it, but you don;t actually have it and there isnt a100% you will. The surgies could be for nothing and insurance may not cover them. I would get screenings every 6 months and go from there.
