Longline Bra?

Brit♥Nhe, on April 22, 2010 at 1:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 26

When I went to David's Bridal to try on wedding dresses they gave me a longline bra with a bodice (I think that's what it is called) to use when I tried on the gown. It is like a strapless bra but goes all the way down to my waist. I do not like this. It looked ok under the dress but IMO is very uncomfortable and because I am short it bunches and creates "ripples" at my waste giving the illusion that I have belly rolls. Can I just wear a normal strapless bra? How many of you are wearing a regular bra vs a longline? Is there an advantage to wearing a longline bra? TIA!

I wore the longline, but I found it very comfortable. And because my dress was low in the back, a normal strapless would not have worked.

Sounds like the one you tried was too big. You might want to get fitted for one and see how it looks with your dress. Macy's and Nordy's have them. I wore one and it was super comfy and made my belly flatter.

You can get away with not wearing a longline if you have a smaller frame and not "too much going on" LOL! Check out herroom.com. they have lots of choices there. You may also find a longline that fits better than the DB one. Check it out.

Longline is for helping with a little shape and comfort. If you are wearing that beautiful dress on your inspiration board, and the bodice seems scratchy to you then I would recommend getting fitted for one. You seem like a fit girl so if the bodice isn't scratchy then I say go for just a strapless.

I was going to get the Flattering Me long line but they told me I don't really need one b/c my dress has an inner corset. I said all that to say that I can't speak for it's comfort b/c I never tried it on but it looks better than any I've seen in my searches and they come in Regular and Petite. Go to www.flattering.com and look at the list of retailers. Some of them are marked that they carry all the sizes in stock so you might be lucky enough to find one close to you and you can go and try one on.

I liked my longline bra. It is comfy. The first one I tried didn't fit correctly so I had issues. I would suggest that you try on some different sizes. A regular strapless may or may not work depending on the dress.

As analy says, it sounds like you tried one on that was too big. I got a really nice memory foam longline bra from DB that fits wonderfully, but it's really not my usual bra size (the 34D fit me; I usually wear a 32D or 32DD). Also, the one I got had no boning. Since it's memory foam, it's basically seamless except for the fastenings in the back. That might give you a better look without bulges if the one you tried had boning.

You might need to get a shorter one that fits you better thre are different sizes and styles! I have a shorter torso so I'm not getting one that is too long on me. and i dont see why you need one if you feel good in your dres just the way you are. I'm geting one to help me feel better in my dress...I'm thin but I have had kids so I need a little help in certain areas... Smiley sad lol

Oh, and rereading your original post--the main purpose of the longline bra IS to look good under the dress--not by itself. A well-engineered longline bra should definitely be fairly comfortable and give you a lot of support, but it won't be made to look super sexy on its own.

I have yet to find one that holds ALL the girls in. They tried several different sizes, but if it fit the body, the girls were overflowing and if it came anywhere near holding in the girls, then it was wrapped around me again. UGH. Please let the insurance company agree to pay for my reduction!!!

I wore a longline and it was super comfortable and flattered my shape. The ladies are right...its ALL about the proper fit! Good luck finding the best bra for you! =)

I had Davids Bridal sew cups into my dress depending on which one you get it is alot more comfortable and easier on you...when you go for a fitting ask about them.

Ok I saw your dress in the other thread. I really don't think you need a longline. I wanted the Flattering Me b/c I thought it would suck my tummy in but I ended up just getting some cups sewn in.
